Eden Park streak goes on the line again this weekend, but I'm wondering what other "never have", "haven't since" records people think are important.

Maybe strangely, the one I'm probably most attached to is not losing to Wales since 1953.

Never losing to Scotland, Italy, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Canada, USA....

    Long Bledisloe reign.

    What else?

I can't say I'm aware of any of these sort of records that other countries hold proudly. Happy to be informed!

I imagine the Jaapies are delighted with their streak of one against us! ๐Ÿ™‚ Largely, because it annoys me.

1953 is a huge one for us

Weโ€™ve come close but faltered at the death

Think we've seen from what's happened with Argentina and Ireland that as soon as a team gets that monkey off their back that the second, third, fourth wins aren't far away.

So a loss to Scotland (and arguably Wales) would be significant for New Zealand's long-term success.

From a Scots perspective a potential first win is massive although theyโ€™ll more than likely shit the bed.

    As will Wales.

I can remember when Wales v NZ was a big thing.
Beat them in 67, 69 (twice) 72 and 78; pretty much put an end to the thing.
Wales had a good team back then too.
JPR Williams, Gerald Davies, Phil Bennett, Derek Quinnell, Mervyn Davies.
    Still not good enough tho.
The Wales v NZ test in 1972 was in fact the first ever test match broadcast live into NZ.
Keith Murdoch scored a great try in that 72 game.
Keith got a bit pissy after the game.
Would have beat them in 1905 too, if they had the TMO.

This is the one that got away

Should have gone for a catch & drive when we were 22-26 down instead of going for the penalty

And Stephen Jones kicking it away at the end was criminal and moronic

I remember the test well, and yeah, was laughing with my dad at the time when Stephen Jones kicked the ball away at the end. It felt like Wales that day were happy to lose by 1 point, as opposed to go out and grab the win against a pretty inexperienced ABs side (something our current coaches would never have the balls to do).

Haha on the 1905 TMO. The heavy defeats that were handed out in the late 60s were the catalyst for the Welsh to begin implementing coaching, not just at the national level but building a coaching network at the grassroots.

Prior to that the WRU took a very dim view of coaching and considered it a violation of the amateurism ethos.

Couldn't find a list of how many caps the NZ players had prior to this match, but personnel wise this is close to an all-time side

    New Zealand:
M Muliaina (Blues); D Howlett (Blues), C Laulala (Crusaders), A Mauger (Crusaders), J Rokocoko (Blues); D Carter (Crusaders), P Weepu (Hurricanes)
T Woodcock (Blues), K Mealamu (Blues), G Somerville (Crusaders), C Jack (Crusaders), A Williams (Blues), R So'oialo (Hurricanes), R McCaw (capt, Crusaders), M Tuiali'i (Crusaders)

    Replacements:
A Oliver (Otago), C Hayman (Otago), R Thorne (Canterbury), M Holah (Waikato)
B Kelleher (Waikato), M Nonu (Wellington), R Gear (Auckland)

At the end of their careers a lot of them became household names, but at the time of that test, it was fairly inexperienced.

You'd do well to find anyone with more than 30 tests next to their name in that starting line up.

Only three of those players would make an all time side (two if I was coach), and one was on the bench and nowhere near the player he became.

Probably all of the backline (Mauger the least likely?), and all of the forwards apart maybe from Mealamu (who would go onto the bench) Somerville and So'oialo. Oh, not sure about Tuiali'i.

But that bench looks bloody handy. Speed, hair colour, porn legend status, and vocab. Plus a big dollop of extra luggage.

Laulala ahead of Billy Proctor ? don't let @Canes4life see this.

I'm happy to let that one change, but I thought we could have got more out of Laulala in the ABs..

    What the hell?

There's twice as many of your bloody Chiefs in this week's team as there are Crusaders.

Since Cleveland is a sister city of Christchurch, I don't think it's too much of a stretch to say that the Indians are a sister franchise of the Crusaders.

Or to reach the inevitable, too many Chiefs - not enough Indians! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gotta say it's kinda weird to pick Blackadder last season when he was basically injured and didn't play, then this season he outplays all the Chiefs loosies and the Crusaders win the comp - and all the Chiefs loosies get picked, including their bench loosie and one of their locks as a loosie, and their other lock joins the squad briefly - and no Blackadder (admittedly injured again as always now).
