Great day today. Took my Dad as a belated Father’s Day present to listen to a couple of goats. 🐐 Had a great discussion with Carter and McCaw here in Sydney. My dad even won a signed jersey which some rich punter paid $7500 for lol.

Having this moment with my aging Dad priceless, winning a signed jersey and talking about our own family all black history with two goats just sublime.

Had a lot of down days recently but this was absolutely memorable

can you share? understand if you don't want to

My dad wanted to share with them about his grandfather/ my great grandfather being an original. Dan especially very interested in hearing about him. Won’t name names but was pretty cool hearing the interest.

@bayimports Apologies if I missed it earlier in the thread, how did you come across this catch up with Richie and Dan? Whereabouts in Sydney was it?

I've never thought Richie was a great speaker, and I know a lot of bright people who fumble over their words, so hopefully it's just that.

they're both doing a speaking event and auction with a 3 hour drinks package between bledisloes, think they did Brisbane Wednesday, Sydney Thursday and Perth today. Was at the Hyatt Regency yesterday

I also hope Im way off with Ritchie. Just felt even when not speaking he was there but not present. Could be anything, even could have been the audience lol, but again am impression I got from a few tells over the day

I never recall MCaw being a particularly natural or emotive speaker on telly. I wouldn't expect anything more at a speaking engagement

I got a couple of cats a year back, and the boys absolutely love them to bits. By far the best thing that's happened to them in a long while.

Today, one of them has been diagnosed with both Lukemia and AIDS (he lived the first year of his life on the streets so they think he got it then). He can't be treated so will be euthanised today.

I am absolutely heartbroken and have no idea what I'm gonna say to the boys when they get home from school.

Just cannot catch a fucking break.

I became a step cat dad when I met the other half in 2020. Took her quite awhile to let me get close to her or even touch her without hissing and scratching but I persevered......

The cat was quite stand offish initially too.

You absolutely grow to love them and all their crazy antics ( could do without the meowing and occasional spews on the carpet at 3am but you take the good with the bad ) she'll always calm me down after a bad day just by sitting on my lap. Things like that. I'm pretty content watching Netflix in an evening with the two of them on the couch next to me.

Really tough what you guys are going through, They absolutely become family and I couldn't imagine her not being there but she's coming up 17, she's not young. I was devastated as a teenager when the family cat ( who we'd had since I was little ) had to take that final trip to the vet.

hope you and your boys are gonna be ok.

@No-Quarter cant upvote that, sorry to hear bro, love the fact you adopted them from the streets, especially hard once any bond has occurred. Don't know what the best thing to say is, but you're clearly exceptional at being there for them and that will help

@No-Quarter yeah bro, pets are an important part of our family, and sadly (but imnportanlty) probably the first lesson for chidren to learn the grief of losing a loved one...but is never easy 😢

A month or so back we have to have our 14 year old dog put down after he had a stroke, he had Diabetes and Cushings disease for the past 2.5 years, so that has involved insulin injections at 0630 and 1830 every day, and specific diet, to top it off, he went blind a year or so back (butnhenwas otherwise his normal self)...thanks to Pet Insurance, we did have him much longer than we otherwise coudl have afforded; paid $140 a month, they paid $550 for his medication.

    @No-Quarter

Like has already been said, can't upvote that. I can fully empathise though, our mutt got diagnosed with a sarcoma in her mouth, only 2 years old. Had the op which meant losing some jawbone, a few teeth and part of the orbital socket so she now looks a bi Harvey Dent. Sadly it didn't get everything soo we had to go for radio therapy. Ever weekday for 18 days we had to schlepp up to Bristol (about 80 miles each way) for the poor girl. I have to say that if she'd been eldely I wouldn't have put her through it all. Thank fuck for pet insurance.

In taking that final decision though, there is rarely a "right" time and you will forever second guess yourself that you didn't do it too late or too early. All you can do is make sure you take that decision for the right reasons, which you clearly are. Good luck with it all mate.

@No-Quarter and everyone above - it fucking sucks but I reckon the pain we feel is just a measure of the joy our pets bring into our lives (and, I’ve always hoped, how much joy we’ve brought to theirs’)

Hope you and the boys are ok.
