This is great bowling, but I am not sure these two are doing enough to put some pressure back on them.

It's smart batting in an ODI when you have a relatively small total to chase. Any movement with the new ball fades fast and the best bowler can only bowl so many overs.

Pretty shocking from England to be bowled out 15 overs short 2 games in a row - no signs of digging in and getting through to the last overs. Brook said he was happier to see Smith get out in that way instead of nicking off defending - and Smith basically closed his eyes and swung like it was beach cricket

Yeah thats why i prefer 50 ODIs over T20. Theres no excuse not to rebuild an innings.
Where as T20 you just have to keep swinging no matter how many wickets you are down

No doubt Baz will just shrug his shoulders and say thats baz ball, its how we play
to me its dumb, looks great when it comes off. And the poms have had some success from it. But you also look really fucking stupid when it doesnt.

Agree it cost them a chance at winning. If they'd managed to get through to 240+ they could have had us under a lot of pressure with the early wickets, but as it stood we could just dig in test-match style for 10 overs, and then the game was basically over with only 100 more runs to get.

@KiwiPie There's a balance. When Mitchell came in, it all of a sudden didn't look like a minefield. Obviously Archer and Carse had gone off, but part of it was definitely an intent thing.

Same goes with modern test cricket, bowlers are more skilled than ever, so you can just let a bowler bowl to you. The scrambled seam has changed the game.

Archer was very impressive, I know he's had injury problems but is he expected to feature in the Ashes? If he can bowl like that he'll have the Aus top order under a lot of pressure.

@No-Quarter If he's fit, Archer will be opening the bowling for England in the Ashes.

@sparky that's great to hear, his injury problems have been horrible so great to see him back, he's a joy to watch when on form (well he will be a joy to watch against Aus, not so much against us)

we can't play 50 over cricket anymore, I think its largely to do with the fact we have no one day cricket in the county season except a second XI competition and we play a shed load of 20:20 style cricket. Hence the slogging and not batting the overs, seems to have become a staple approach. Under Morgan in the lead up to 2019, we definitely went hard for big totals but if it didn't work had enough experience in the team to knuckle down and get to 250, these days we just keep slogging aiming for 400 and running out of wickets.

Just realised Glenn Phillips isn’t playing, I assume he must be injured?

Great catch by son of Mitch jumping high to his left in the slips

Our best bowler isn’t even playing and their top order sucked again.

Trying to smear everything when the ball is moving around.

After 15-20 overs th emovement is gone. We would have struggled to get to 250 the other day - some more runs and hte pressure builds quickly

A lot of dismissals where the English batsmen has left a yawning gap between bat and pad. Some issues with technique there.... starting to think Aus are unbackable favorites in the Ashes, Hazlewood will be licking his lips...

some interesting stats mentioned before, worst ever top 4 performance in an ODI series ever (min 3 games) ..not just England..ever. Bangladesh previously held the record for touring teams, but it is now Englands

Looks like they've taken the McCullum approach a bit too much to heart.

Will Young again doesn't trouble the scorers for long.
