Pretty good overall. Warner Dearns is a massive win.
Just need to keep guys fit, already missing Godfrey and Naholo to start the year.
-
Good to see Vernon Bason in there. Pretty settled squad. Pending injuries I put us a top 3 finish

Just as long as we don't end up in Canberra during the playoffs. It's been our undoing for too many years.

Seriously think we messed up re signing Enari also I think Shields is getting a little long in the tooth would’ve been better getting a younger loose forward
Yeah I wish we kept TK Howden, Shields is done in my view. Enari is also another massively dud signing, alongside Poliko.
If required, I hope Delany is played at 6 before Shields.
-
@Canes4life 100% be good if we played Poliko before giving him an extension.

Yeah i think if you split it into the positions (in descending order) I would look at it as:
- Flanders, Delaney, Shields, (Ariko??) i think hes a 6
- Kirifi/Lakai (pretty even for me)
- Lakai, Iose, Flanders
In the locks would want Dearns starting i would say, other lock jersey up for grabs unless IWL can sort himself out and play some consistent footy like he is capable of!

100% Dearns starts, he’s our marquee signing.

as we know Riley Higgins is set to be a generational player, so I'm thinking for the majority of the season Laidlaw should go Love 10. Higgins 12. Jordie 15. Cheers
It will be very interesting to see how the juggle them. Higgins and Proctor were clicking big time for the few games they were both healthy last year. Laidlaw has a tendancy to be pretty conservative so I dare say we will see Cameron at 10 a fair bit - probably will start the season there and hopefully play himself out of 10/Love play himself into it

@SecFid said in Hurricanes 2026:
Agree Laidlaw will probably be conservative. Losing Godfrey is a real shame. The successful spine of the Canes backline became Roigard, Love, Harkin but Laidlaw went away from that in what proved to be the last game of the season.
I'd be happy with Roigard, Love in the halves, Higgins and Proctor in the midfield and a back three of 11. Fineanganofo, Moorby and Barrett to start the season. Naholo out for the start of the campaign.

Great to see Bason, Flanders & Will Cole in there. I actually rated Will Cole over Rico Simpson for the U20s. How good for Drew Wild too.
-
Great to see Tony Tafa in there as well.

@Canes4life Canes admin did a neat job with these player profiles

Rueben Love listed as an outside back. Can much be taken from that? Would like to see him playing 10.
Not really I wouldn’t think, surprised Harkin is listed as a ten considering he’s played all of his rugby at fullback. Laidlaw mentioned in the squad release that he saw Love as an option for both 10 and 15, all of us Canes fans hope he starts the season at first five considering the impact he made there for us last year.
