I couldn’t help thinking that at about 60 the ABs seemed to relax and then their play flowed with real dynamism which the Irish couldn’t handle.

    Maybe some psychology to sort?

I've had this vague thought for an age.
B.Barrett in particular - used to be fucking awesome when just having fun... playing like he's back on the farm doing chip-kicks and re-gathering them at will. Then when trying to play a structured game... under pressure like Bowie and Mercury - shit.
The rest of the team... maybe has become the same.
And that's definitely a coaching thing... I wouldn't know how to coach that: "play naturally when you're feeling it; but play differently when maybe that's not quite working and just do this structure"

I think Williams go ahead score made all the difference in the world.

The ABs played so much better with the lead than they did when trailing.

@nonpartizan I think you’re right. But I think we can learn to play with confidence even when behind!

If you're used to winning, you are always confident you can find a way to win and you are confident in what you do, and under pressure you just up the intensity and accuracy. See our players vs Ireland in Dublin 2013.
If you're used to losing, you lack confidence. You freeze up or start doing silly low percentage things - because when you do what you normally do you lose, so you need a miracle play - when it looks like you might lose again. See Sexton's missed kick in Dublin 2013, and our current ABs when they get scoreboard pressure.

Yeah, for the first 60 mins when chasing the game the ABs were not playing as if winning was an inevitability and that they all they had to do was just keep persevering. As soon as they took the lead they played with freedom like you said and just began playing to their potential.

There was a discernible shift in confidence as you say. By the end of the game it was as if the result was "never in doubt"...... To tweak the old adage it was a game of two halves - it's just the that first half lasted an hour!

Did their play change because of the subs though?

For sure the subs were a major part of it but the team only began playing to it's potential when they got their nose in front, 14-13 imo. The play itself that got them into the game was a scuffed kick by Jordan followed by Hollands tackle and Quinn forcing a penalty at the breakdown and they were all starters.

Once they grabbed that lead it seemed to me that they played without a lot of pressure on them and they had belief.

Are we now saying though... Use Plan-A despite the wife arriving?
Coz... metaphor-aside, I'm currently 100% on that train

If not clear - I'm smashed, and just took a toke. And just hit a button which made my screen do something I don't know how to get out of...

if you're on Plan A, Plan B sounds possible but at some point it isn't and you don't really care. So, enjoy your jump into the multiverse...
