Didn't know where to put it.

Mods please move as you see fit.

When I'm not posting nonsense on here, this is what I get up to.

Mark your calendar for the premiere of Extreme Skiing Pioneer Dan Egan's new ski movie 'Return To The Silk Road'

    Tuesday 11 November 2025
    13:00 EST / 18:00 GMT / 07:00 NZT (Wednesday 12 November 2025)

Here's the trailer from my Instagram account

I was very fortunate to be on this production based out of Erciyes Resort, Central Anatolia, Türkiye with filming also taking place in the 6,000 year old Silk Road city of Kayseri and the otherworldly landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Cappadocia.

I first visited this area in December 2022 for a story for Fall Line Skiing magazine

    https://www.fall-line.co.uk/other-worldly-scenery-and-the-best-value-adventuring-on-earth/

I met Dan when we were both presenting at the National Snow Show in Birmingham, UK.

I was ‘Talking Turkey’ as part of The Ski Podcast panel discussion on alternative winter sport destinations, a trip organised by Erdem Kurt from Ski Turkish.

Dan was there talking about his life in skiing on the release of his book ‘30 Years In A White Haze’.

    https://dan-egan.com/whitehaze2/

I watched his presentation as a longtime fan and asked him to sign a copy of his book unaware that a few years later I’d be living and reliving his Turkish Odyssey.

After reading his book I saw he’d been to the resort and area I’d just returned from and I messaged him to see if he would be interested in doing a ‘Then & Now’ piece for print & film.

Dan has made no secret of the fact that his trip to Türkiye in 1991 to film for the 1992 Warren Miller ski movie 'Steeper and Deeper' was his most enjoyable, and he immediately said let’s do it.

After a number of false starts over a number of years we were at Erciyes Resort in January 2025 ready to start filming.

On the trip were John Briley on assignment for Ski Magazine

And Ben Clatworthy for The Times

My story will be in the 200th Anniversary issue of Fall Line Skiing magazine here in the UK due out in a couple of weeks

I have loads of images and video from my time in Türkiye last season, starting from this post on my Instagram account

Scroll down and make your way back up to see more of Erciyes, Uludag and Dorukkaya.

‘Return To The Silk Road’ is the fruit of our labour and we can’t wait to share the wonders of this area of Türkiye with you

    Tune in tomorrow/Wednesday

    Thanks

    Wicked Mike, congrats

    @MiketheSnow Cool!

Somewhere, I still have a very worn (and this is nothing to do with my previous posts about VHS) 1980s extreme skiing tape directed by Eric Perlman featuring Dan and John Egan among various others - I think they were the North Face Extreme Team!

    That's them!

Here's the start of the one I've got - on Rob Des Laurier's youtube channel.

Terry Cook doing helmetless front flips was the most spectacular (less so nowadays with freestyle competitions) - aside from John Tremain setting the world record cliff jump - but that was just bloody stupid! Didn't come close to landing it! 🙂

I liked these Perlman ones better than Warren Millers slightly hokey versions. Perlman picked out some pretty cool music to go with them!

@MiketheSnow It's pretty cool seeing where some of those guys ended up. Rob Des Lauriers appears to have become a realtor and from the videos, he might be well suited to that! 🙂

Went to Cappadocia in 1986 - it was summer - scorching hot - no idea you could ski there and I can't recall the volcano. Probably couldn't see it for the heat haze.

Apparently there's good ski-ing in the various Stans, but I figure I need proximity to decent medical facilities for my ski-ing excursions these days!

Anyway - Dan's a winner from my viewing. I bought his book as a Christmas present for my bro-in-law. I should've asked you if it's any good but fark him (my bro-in-law) - he can like it! 🙂

Yeah, Dan one of the few of that era who's still in the sport.

Cappadocia is perfect in Winter. We had one day of light snow there which made it look really pretty. The rest of the time it was around 10C and sunny. Lovely walking around weather. And far less people than Summer.

There's great skiing all through Turkiye, the former Eastern Bloc, and the old Russian Empire.

Slowly heading further and further East each Winter.

His book is an easy and very good read. Dan's had quite the life.
