I don't even think that Fakatava was our best player, yeah he was good, but Lowe was week in week out our best player (despite the hatred often directed towards him on here).

Surprised that all of Casey, Christie and Pledger all missed out on nomination for player of the year.

@Grooter The Otago players probably all take points off each other. Think Casey, Pledger and Nareki would have split a good chunk of the points across our victories. Gilbert, TUJ and Lio-Willie too.

yeah, its the curse of the team effort

Is the NPC really sustainable if ads like the below are popping up on my social feed. Worrying signs.

@Canes4life thats an agent trying to get clients by claiming they can get them into NPC, these have posts for every comp around the world by the looks of it...dont think it means anything

I was curious as have been doing some requitment for my club, the highest level i could see in the NZ placements was North Otago......

Unions need to take a leaf out of what Counties Manukau are doing the majority of their squad are club players with around 5 x NZ super players and possibly a few MP players but in the main they backed players from their club system and also put a lot of work into their development squad who actually won the North Region Dev comp
Reon Graham does a tremendous job pulling together 2 squads primarily out of 6 first division clubs , staggering when you compare some of the resources that bigger unions have
The word that comes to mind in many of the conversations I have with various stakeholders from other unions is in and around TRUST , having the fortitude to develop what you have available in your own union as opposed to being lazy and going outside your region , most of these players bought in are there picking up a pay cheque and if they don’t pick up super deals they move on

I wish my own union would have more trust in the talent that they have within , we had a ridiculous situation this year where a player who was bought in from the MLR who was the player of the year in that particular comp but it’s fair to say he turned out to be a dud which also highlighted the differences between MLR and NPC and this came at the expense of a very bright prospect who is even rated by HP guys within the Blues system.

Now this young talent is being courted by Toyota Verblitz after he just recently headed over trained and trialed with that particular club
If the unions are not willing to back and trust their systems, the stakeholders eg clubs will eventually lose respect and good people walk away

Counties club rugby took a hit around covid time but it is slowly re-building. A lot of clubs went down to one team, but they didn't fold and are building back up. I expect Papakura to bounce back and Waiuku are trying to get a reserves team . I think 8 teams is a good number for a prem grade so hopefully they can get to that in the future.

With the northern border in the middle of South Auckland, hopefully some Rep quality players from Auckland clubs look south for an opportunity. The population of the province is growing especially around Drury. School rugby seems to be growing, Tipene is back, there is a new Catholic school North of Pukekohe. Wesley might take a hit with their Hostel closing.
