      @voodoo

      Yeah well.
I think any guard would have looked fantastic in that particular team.
It was the "team" that was fantastic.
One of the most dominant regular season teams ever.
And they still got taken to seven by the most overrated player in the league, in what really was a one man team.

Lets see how the rest of his career plays out.

I’ll take the overs on SGA’s career if that’s what you’re offering. He’s already the 3rd best SG in history. Amazing scorer. Incredible defender. And a galvanising leader. You’re mad - actually, I’ll rephrase - fucking delusional - if you think that “any guard “ could have led that team to the title.

None of that is to diminish the player that Joker is.

But equally don’t diminish OKC getting over the line for their first title just because Indy were plucky. It’s dangerous ground

Take a look at Joker in the playoffs - stats can really paint a picture:

      Joker playoffs
      7 years
      16 series
      10-6 overall
      1-6 vs 1-3 seed
      9-0 vs 4-8 seed
      0-5 vs >50 win teams
      10-1 vs <50 win teams

We can all write a story to suit.

Jokic did win an MVP finishing 6th in the West.

I think Jokic was better than SGA, but I can understand them giving MVP to someone on a 68 win team. No matter who won between the two, there were gonna be a lot of complaints.

Jokic is clearly more important to the Nuggets than SGA is to the Thunder though. Thunder still won 5 of their 6 games without SGA last season. They won those games by an average of 22.6 points. They are loaded compared to the Nuggets.

That year Philly and Bucks only won 51 games too. Suns won 64 but Booker wasn’t worthy.

You have to remember that “MVP” isn’t a literal award -it doesn’t matter that you won 40 games but your team would have only won 12 without you - and there is no “best player of the regular season” award either - so it’s always been a hybrid. Otherwise LeBron doesn’t lose to DRose, Jordan doesn’t lose to Malone etc.

But the golden rule has always been that if it’s even remotely close, then the dude leading the team that is killing the league gets it over the guy sitting mid-table

        SGA absolutely worthy last year

Yeah SGA was always going to win it when OKCs record was so brilliant. I’m more a fan of Joker than SGA and I’m pretty cool with how it played out. Giannis has been phenomenal over the past few seasons too.

The OKC team was the best NBA team since the GSW in 2016, and before that you have to back to the Bulls in the 90's.

They could fit all the great players around him because they were young and cheap.
That situation aint guna last, and the contract that SGA has got now, and the rest of the players needing to be paid, will insure that the team is broken up in the next season or two.

The ultra slurping that everyone gave him took away from the outstanding performance of the team, and made me fuckin sick.

I could name half dozen scoring guards that could have done the same job, with that particular team.

And they almost got rolled by a team of no names in the finals.
Led by the most overrated player in the NBA.
Overrated, that made me fuckin sick too.
And none of those weak fluffybunnies who voted him overrated ever fessed up either.

Gosh, I’ve not read a more pathetic and angry take in a while. Sad to be you bro!

Looking forward to hearing about the half-dozen guards that could have done the same thing, and I’ll be especially excited to see you melt down if he wins again!

@mohikamo great team and yet SGA still averaged 30. He has one of the most unguardable step back mid range shots we have seen. If two guards you are thinking are named Mike, Kobe, Steph or D Wade, yeah sure. But no other current 2 guards would’ve done what he did.

Curry gave a reality check to the Spurs this week in that they started the season well but still have a ways to go to develop into champions.

First game, spurs had a solid 10 pt lead and were coasting but the warriors rolled up their sleeves starting in the 3rd and locked in.

So steph has parted ways with under armour.... I guess this is where UA decline and end up being something as an afterthought like how Reebok once had Shaq and Iverson but now are not on the map.

When all is said and done Nikes dominance in the basketball shoe market is undeniable. No matter what other brands come up with to innovate and try and chip into their market share Nike always ends up on top. Appropriately enough the first shoe that he wears after ending his relationship with UA are Kobes. Kobe who himself was originally an Adidas guy.

Shaq is bringing Reebok back. I did not realise that Reebok were #3 in sales when they were bought by Adidas who basically shut down the brand until recently when they sold it to a consortium who made Shaq President of the basketball division

@mohikamo Joker is top 15 all-time already probably - absolute freak. I still have him behind the likes of Shaq, TD and Hakeem, but I have my biases...

I think you m assively underate SGA. Having a great team is awesome, but he's an incredible enabler of that. At times in the finals when J-Will and Chet looked like deers in headlights, SGA was the man. And we don't mark MJ down for the all-time greatness of his teams, nor Steph for the brilliance of his. No reason to do it here either.

Your reference to the underrated vote whooshed me last time, I follow you now - definitely worthy of some spite from you (and from Hali) - pretty absurd that the NBA has such a public poll, really not suure what they're trying to achieve there.

Steph’s probably got a hundred pair of Kobe’s in a secret stash and now he can finally rock them

I have it on good authority that Steph likes to wear LeBrons around his house in private

Is Cooper Flagg tracking as expected so far this season?

One thing I noticed in the Clippers game was that he was always on the periphery of the team huddles, non verbal to his teammates and not really engaged with by them. At first glance it did not strike me as an environment that was nurturing to a rookie. Anthony Davis was bouncing around in street clothes near the bench but did not see him talk to Flagg once. Not from the social point of view of course more in terms of him receiving instruction or support.

Mavs finally get a W. Flagg with a 21/8/5 contribution. AD about a week from returning.

Spurs back to winning ways, minus Wemby who was rested.

Liked how the Mavs gutted out the win today. Let’s be honest a lineup of Flagg, Williams, PJ, Christie and Gafford to close out a game against most teams is not going to do it. But they played some decent ball against a decent Blazers team that can really score.

I like Flagg’s emotion today and his team mates were getting him the ball to make plays. There’s no doubt frustration inside the camp but I don’t think there is anything too sinister there. I did notice Klay pointing out a few things to Flagg today. But Klay isn’t a big talker at the best of times.

Steph with back to back 40+ games comes out today and couldn’t hit the side of a barn. Scored 9.

Luckily they were against the Pels who sacked their coach today.

I had a bet today on the Houston/Suns double. First Houston make me sweat through OT, and then the Suns get outscored 47-27 in the 4th to lose by 2. At home.

Look at the win % chart. Got to be rigged....
