    I like this izakaya although I think the Shibuya location is much cooler:

    Family vacation to Japan going on right now, and here for the next week and a bit. The usual tourist things in the Tokyo-Osaka-Kyoto triangle.

    Lot of stress organising due mostly to Mrs TA's Relentless Pursuit of Perfection, and an inability to just roll with whatever comes.

    Anyway we've been in Tokyo a few days and it's fucking awesome. Cheap food, cheap piss, and a great public transport system, easily navigable by Google maps.

    Miss TA has been a bit of a stressor with her desire to make everything about buying gifts for her baseball-obsessed boyfriend, it must be said. 🤔 but mostly a distraction once we're all foot sore and weary

    The best bit besides the awesome food and attractions : on a couple of nights The Boy (now 21) and I have been out later than the females, catching a few beers at local spots in Shinjuku and just exploring in general.

    It's been great to just hang out together as men, enjoying the moment. After a shit few years on the home front, this is what I'm after.

    Cup full.

    P.S. fucking nailed a rendition of "Unchained Melody" at Shinjuku Ale Karaoke on the 2nd floor the other night.

    Hit Shimokitazawa if you have time. Cool area.

    That place I sent you to @voodoo has their original place in Shimokita

    What's notable in Shimokita?

    the "Brooklyn" of Tokyo.

    Cool thrift shops, good coffee, counter culture, craft beer bars. Lovely ramen bars too.

    Shinjuku to Tokyo this morning to get the Shikansen.

    Left the hotel 8am. 4 adults with suitcases in rush hour.

    Hectic but fun.

    Shinkansen is - and I cannot overstate this - fucking awesome

    @gt12 Osaka 4 nights. Kyoto 3.
    Back to Tokyo on the 2nd, flying out 3rd.

    I could do another 2 weeks just in Tokyo!

    Planning to take a day trip to Hiroshima?
    In Kyoto, try to get to the 'Insta' spots before the tour buses, so if the weather is good and it's not too cold, hit Arashiyama / Fushimi Inari-taisha early in the morning when there should be fewer people.
    I can ask friends for restaurant recommendations, a friend of mine really likes this Gin, so their bar could be worth a try:

    @gt12 Cheers mate.

    Gale warning in Osaka this arvo. Storm has rolled in and I'm on the 23rd floor of our hotel watching the rain and a little lightning

    And no, not doing Hiroshima but I reckon Mrs TA and I will be back in the not-too-distant future to see more, and that is on the list.

    Nice. I know the city very well and can recommend some lesser known places to eat.

    If you are back in Tokyo, I can recommend some places as well. I don't know Kyoto or Osaka that well, sadly.
