1st Test only squad has been named, no Jamieson or O'Rourke
Tom Latham (c), Tom Blundell, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner, Kane Williamson, Will Young
Poorly selected team.
Blundel,Smith,Bracewell not test players Young needs to get out of the bad habits he taken up again or he will not score many runs.Conway I like as a player but he has some technical problems that will find him out at this level.
Put this team out against a better test team and we are going to struggle. -

Pretty conservative selection.
Starting XI something like:
Latham
Conway
Williamson
Ravindra
Mitchell (Young if not fit)
Blundell
Santner
Smith
Foulkes
Henry
Duffyyeah i think that looks about right
We are blessed/lucky to have some pretty good depth bowling wiseJamieson bowled 26 overs during the ODI series, feels like they are being over cautious or know something they havent let on. Why not just give him a test and manage his work load?
-
In saying that happy to see Henry, Faulkes and Duffy picked
Duffy impresses me, has genuine pace and Faulkes with his swing offers something differentSmith on the other hand..
-
Inherently I don’t mind Jamieson being managed, but I feel like if this was going to be the case he’d have been better served playing the Ford Trophy and first two rounds of the Plunket Shield for Canterbury to get him ready as opposed to playing the T20s and ODIs

Jury out on Smith.
Bracewell most definitely isn't especially as Santner is there.
Bowling attack looks a bit pop gun without Jamieson and O'Rourke but I don't think the Windies will exploit this too much.

@Chris might be able to answer this, but how does Foulkes go in the longer version? I didn't realise he was in the frame. Does he have the stamina to be the stock bowler? Does he still get swing with the older ball? Does he keep his pace or does he drop down to early 120's?

He goes ok he has in 4 day cricket he can get reverse swing with the older ball yeah he will drop pace and will use change of pace and variations when the ball gets older.
depending on how many overs he is required to bowl. -

Blundell has been guilty of losing concentration in the longer form his batting could be anything shit or good.
he is not consistent enough for me to hold down a test spot. -

@Chris know much about Cam Paul? I see him and Muhammed Abbas have staged a nice recovery here vs the Windies and that Paul already has 2 5fers in 4 FC games for Canterbury. One to watch?
Yeah he is a decent young allrounder bowls mid 130s and is a good bat.
just 20 years old a country boy originally out of Darfield highly rated one to watch a genuine allrounder.
I rate him highly. -
We'd better enjoy the great man while we can.
Kohli gone as mentioned and Smith and Root might well be playing their last Ashes series.
Marty Crowe could not have predicted things better when he referred to them as the fab four, what a quartet of modern legends they all became ! a cheeky 507 test appearances between them.......( and counting )
-
Yeah definitely the beginning of the end for Kane
Really really hope he has his goal set on reaching 10,000 test runs
not concerned about ODI's tbh. -

He could well get a big chunk of those against a pretty poor test team in his own backyard.
The comparison to Southee was apt, unlike him KW is still absolutely the first name on the team sheet. I'd hate to see him decline and be there on reputation like others before him ( Ponting, Dravid and Tendulkar spring to mind to varying degrees )
