@Victor-Meldrew Speaking of Instagram, Savea and Sititi hanging out with a few of the England players in Dubai. Surprised Kolisi isn't with them.

also the "guy that Damien McKenzie threw into the stands at Murrayfield"

The 70's were really, really bad - at one stage we lost nearly 70% of Test matches over 2 successive years - but I've never seen an AB team so lacking in fight as this year's model.

Definitely a step down from the 60's. The 60's were mega.
    But not "really, really" bad.
A bit of a similar situation to right now in someways.
    Bad coaching decisions included.

The majority of games were played away.
Two series were in SA, and we know how the saffas were always going arrange them. Both series were well fought even-so.

The bad losses came at home.
    I'd say the 3rd test in 71;
the England game in 73 (really, really bad, probably one of the ABs worst ever losses); and
the 78 loss to the Aussies at Eden Park (the Aussies hadn't beaten us for a very long time, and played out of their skins).

I'd say the Bastille Day massacre in 1979 was up (down?) there with those bad ones.

I'm struggling to understand the shit with Hansen. Has he always been part of the Crusaders setup with Razor? Was he actually the head coach while Razor instilled the vibes into the team?

It feels to me like Razor doesn't want actual assistant coaches who might challenge him, because he isn't the head coach himself? Like if you brought Cotter in, he'd be challenging Razor on a bunch of stuff, but Razor wouldn't be able to respond because he's not actually coaching, so would have to keep deferring to Hansen etc?

As much as we all take the piss out of Scott Hansen, he does actually have a reasonable resume, but the interesting thing with it, is he has only ever been in places for a maximum of three seasons - is that maybe an indication of his personality.

That said, if he really is an insipid twat, I can't really see how he would have survived with Jamie Joseph and Tony Brown for the best part of five years, then gone onto the Crusaders, and then be welcome into the All Blacks.

I really look forward to the lid being lifted on the BTS of the 2024-25 All Blacks.

When are.they looking to announce the replacement for Holland?

Who are suitable and available candidates?

If I recall they didn't say there definitely would be a replacement. They might just rearrange duties with the guys they've got

I think the replacement possibly depends a little bit on what happens with Tamati Ellison.

Razor's traditional right-hand man always seemed to be Jason Ryan, and I wonder whether if he isn't thrown out, whether Scott Hansen being moved into a lesser role (Defence Coach), with a fresh attack coach brought in, might actuallly result in meaningful change.

I think defence coach is probably lesser than attack coach? In theory, how you attack decides how much you defend.

Lesser might not be the right word, but I think in terms of seniority, I definitely think it sits above.

The trouble with your theory is that article in which Razor basically said Hansen is the ad hoc head coach. Whereas he is the blue sky feels guy. Add to that the rumour that Leon left because he wasn't happy answering to Hansen. The smoke billows around Hansen

Oh totally agree - I guess I was trying to look at what could be a semi-realistic situation that is better than what we have currently - because I can't see Razor, Ryan or Hansen going before the Boks Tour.

If it isn't possible to remove Robertson, could they install an entirely new coaching group 'under' Robertson, but with a wink and a nod make it clear that the new appointee is actually in charge, while telling Robertson to stay out of it?

No way they could attract someone with the right level of competence and experience into a role like that. I don't see an easy way out for NZR, sacking Robertson would be a big call for a lot of reasons (even if it is correct), so they will want to avoid that at all costs. But it seems to me Razors ABs have been found out at test level because Hansen, who is apparently acting in a traditional "head coach" role, has been found out. And no amount of Razors good vibes can hide that. The role Hansen is currently playing is not really replaceable as nobody with head coach aspirations will take it on.

@mariner4life a good defence will create attacking opportunities, something our defence isnt doing currently, which is somewhat fortunate as our attack certainly ain't up to taking full advantage

I personally look at some of the posts here about Kirk being able to fix it with the same trepidation as I had when Razor was announced and everyone was announcing him as the saviour. I certainly hope that Kirk can make enough change to bring the organisation to a professional level of competency, but the same things being said about him as the man to fix things were said about Razor over the last few years.

That's a very fair point, but from what I seen/heard, Kirk is very aware of the issues and understands the need to fix the underlying processes rather than just a short-term fix. He's also an astute businessman who can probably see things from outside the NZR box

A lot is going to depend on who the new CEO is, of course, but at least we now have someone who's prepared to face problems rather than hide them.

I hope for institutional change. But that takes time to implement.

For sure. Problems much deeper than the current coaching setup. At least these are now being aired

While that is happening, we need serious changes to the current coaching group if we are to have any chance in two years, and even more immediate is not getting flogged even worse next season

Tricky situation to handle. If Robertson stays (unlikely to be sacked) and if even 10% of the rumours are true around friction in camp and fall-out with other coaches, then it's going to take a radical overhaul of the coaching setup with some direct day-day control from NZR

I thought Smith was meant to be an advisor? Either the current coaching team are barely using him, they're not listening to what he tells them, or most unlikely he's telling them bad intel. If Kirk decided these guys needed supervision, it's gotta be someone else, someone who has the power to push change and who has the direct ear of the CEO once appointed. I wonder if GH is free and wants a part time gig?

Yep, but advisor is just that, You can advise anything, but doesn't have to be listened to. I got impression that Smith was there if the coaching group wanted advice, he wasn't meant to be an overseer/boss type thing, you can't ever have that.
