They obviously rate Foulkes as a potential all rounder given he is in ahead of Henry.
200/7
When Foulkes first came on the first class scene McMillan was saying he reckoned he was a better batter than bowler.

Bracewell fell right into the trap there. Dumb shot at this stage of the day.

Bracewell has all the talent, but prone to brain explosions.
Definitely not good enough to be a frontline test player but I guess not too bad as the third choice allrounder.

He’s there cos Phillips and Santner aren’t.

Roller coaster of a day. Overall I think the Windies will be the happier of the two, but not by much. They'd have been hoping to bowl us out for under 200, both after winning the toss and then again after scything through the middle order.
We were in some strong positions (at 94/1 it was starting to look like we were getting on top, and if the Bracewell/Smith partnership went a bit longer we were getting back to close to parity. After being put in 231/9 isn't a disaster but we should have done much better.
Hopefully the tail pair can slap a quick 20-30 and then let our bowlers loose while there's still morning cloud cover.

Why are they both missing? Injuries?

Coming back from injury and injured respectively.
Bracewell can do the job in their absence, he has second top scored to be fair !
Pissing down in Wellington today which I hope is a good sign that we'll get sunshine and clear skies next week.

Can't argue with the numbers, but the guy just doesn't inspire me. Funny how I'd be happy if Mitch was there, I wouldn't have said before the Indian tour!

Yeah Santner has given a massive fuck you to everyone who says he isn't a test player thats for sure.
But with NZs obsession with having someone "who can and will bowl spin and can bat" Bracewell is next cab off the rank. Then again, with Smith and Foulkes providing decent enough batting options down the order perhaps another batsman ( fern favourite Henry Nicholls perhaps ) could have been an option, Blundell bats seven and Ravindra rolls the arm over if needed ?

Only last 3 balls - not even until the scheduled start of play!Lots of cloud cover. Should be lots in the wicket still. Need to bowl well but opportunity for early inroads.
Yeah the bowlers are very good as they showed but that batting order looks seriously fragile for test cricket. Lets hope Henry has taken some angry pills.
I'm assuming they started early to make up for time lost yesterday ?

Latham is busy being captain.
Should make Conway do it given he has done it in the shorter forms and shouldn't be too tired after facing two balls.
Yeah this feels like Latham being too team oriented. Sometimes you need to be realistic about how much you can do yourself. You're allowed a substitute keeper now too, so it doesn't have to be someone in the playing 11.
