No meaningful pool games in there anyway…
This nations cup thingy that starts next year has more starch to it.
Ireland have no excuse this time….they basically dodge NZ,SA and FRA until the semi.
Are you assuming Scotland win Group D? If Ireland win Group D they dodge those three to the final

Yeah you're right......so they really have no excuse.

Good breakdown here based on current RWC rankings and current form

We’ve just got to stop being pussies and beat everyone in our path, you know.. like we’ve done before.
That's the best way to ensure you win the thing.

well we've never been beaten in a world cup game in Australia, so I reckon we'll win our pool, beat Italy in the R16, Australia in QF, Argentina in the SF and then one of the also rans in the final.
Cough. Cough. 1987. Cough.

Would NZ throw the Oz game to miss playing SA in the QFs?

I would. SA in the QF and France in the SF is the worst draw imaginable. QF exit is looking very likely.
We said that last time. Didn't happen and we almost won the thing.
We'll be fine.

Don't really get the whinging, chances are we still have to beat SA in the final anyway if we end up on the other side, plus beat a team equal to or not far off France (who aren't exactly our bogey team at WCs).
Just fucking get on with it and earn it.
Yep, let's work like bastards to be the best, cream everyone, win the Cup back and party hard afterwards.
Everything else is noise.

I've looked closely at the draw, and can see the country names were simply printed on cardboard and glued on a ping pong ball. You'd think it hard to tell apart except, the way they cut out the names are quite distinct ie argentina is a long strip. South africa a pyramid, England a short strip. Hell, the France ball even had a clear dimple on underside of it!
Add to the fact that it was Bill Beaumont, a world rugby official doing the band 1 draw.. Sepp Blatter type corruption going on..

@Bones its one thing they do the draw this far out, but to have the current 1 v 2 ranked sides likely to meet in the quarters seems fucking dumb....in most seeded draws, assuming both seeds play as they should, 1 v 2 would meet in the final as they start on opposite sides of the draw.
Seems a draw manufactured to get certain pools, or WR showing they are incapable of doing things competently.
I couldn't care less if it was NZ 1 and Ireland 2, 1 v 2 should not meet in the quarters.
Sure, you have to beat the best and all, but really, the 'best' shouldn't meet until the end.

Doubt they'll open with Aus v NZ in case we win.
Expect Aus v HK in Perth to open.
Didnt stop them doing France ABs as the last RWC opening game.....
Chile would be more competitive (and more likely) than HK

Last time we had an easy semi, which meant that we were primed for the final. We only lost it due to Cane's red and two missed kicks. SA, on the other hand, were running on fumes in that final as a result of a tougher lead up, and were nowhere near their best in that game. The challenge of peaking for three consecutive games against the three best teams in the world shouldn't be underestimated. I have yet to see a team do it.
It's a no-brainer to me. When you have the option of taking the easier route, you always take it.
