Movie review thread...

There's a Star Wars pop up channel on Sky at the moment. I've recorded the 6 movies they have, am not a Star Wars geek but remember watching the first couple as a kid and enjoying them so thought I'd watch them all with the boy and get up to speed seeing as they are going to keep releasing new movies and I feel like I'm missing out.

I watched the last third of Revenge of the Sith and all of A New Hope the other day. Have to say, for a late 70's flick, the special effects and space stuff was pretty amazing.
The dialogue in both was kind of appalling. And Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen were not great. But Harrison Ford rocks it as Han.

Just watched The Sausage Party.
Four innuendos out of five oddly shaped vegetables.

We have another completely separate thread for Star Wars. Whilst myself and the other
geekscool guys who happen to love the greatest film series ever made appreciate the enthusiasm can you guys please be sure to put your thoughts there instead ?"The Thing"
2011 version, not the original starring Kurt Russell.
Really enjoyed this, basic story is grotesque Alien life form is discovered in Antarctica, has the ability to morph itself into any living form it touches. Some pretty harsh environments, disgusting scenes, general mistrust amongst characters in it......
Not "Alien" standard but much better than I thought.
3.5 scuttling creatures out of 5 morphed ones.

@MN5 that post was for people who are not Star Wars geeks, as an FYI that if you want to get into it then Sky has a pop up channel. Fuck scrolling through 15 pages of geeks jerking each other off over how much they know about Star Wars...

Dude, jerking ourselves off. Doing that with other guys is just gay.

Just for MN5...
Eventually got around to watching SWVII. Found it rather meh.
A bit more humour than the earlier movies especially between Finn and Han. But it was a bit twee and the requirement to believe in an all powerful First Order being essentially the Empire ... yeah nah.
Shit that Han died.
BB-8 reminded me of Wall-E.
2.5 straws out of 5 to grasp.

Watched Creed last night. Not too bad. Boxing is such a good movie sport.
It's a little thin plot-wise, and gets a little slow through the middle, but it' still pretty good. Just not as good as Rocky Balboa.
3.5 swollen eyes out of 5 training montages

The kids lost their shit at the funeral scene:
Now, whenever they're asked a question and want to say "no" they just say "Not the fanta door. Not the burger rings door." with a Kiwi accent.

22 Bullets - the French title is L'Immortel
On Netflix. It promised Jean Reno killing people while munching on the cold croissant of revenge. Top of the class with you, mon ami!
Jean Reno is an ex-mob boss in Marseilles, who gets shot up with the aforementioned 22 bullets. None of the silly fluffybunnies involved could shoot straight it would appear, so their life expectancy takes a nose dive.
Violent, noir, and so very, very French.
3.5 badly traumatised children out of 5.

@canefan He's been in a few very good french type noir thrillers. Ronin, whilst being an American film was s et in France and had a very French feel to it. Great car chases, good background story (although a little confusing in parts) and DeNiro before he went to pants.
-
@Catogrande Yup, just mentioned one of the first I saw him in. He was in the first Mission Impossible Tom Cruise movie which I enjoyed the most as it was closest in spirit to the original TV series

I just wish they'd do an actual Mission Impossible where they get set a mission and go and do it. I'm sick of them always being a rogue team.
