Some handy runs at the end. Commentators saying every run is like gold - but, then Tickner doesn't come out and try to fend off a couple to support Foulkes.

It used to be an expected thing if you could stand and hold onto a bat.

So they're trialling substitutes ( ie not just fielding subs, guys who can bat and bowl ) in Australia this domestic season ?

Given NZ have had four guys fall over in two tests this has to be an option surely.

32/2 an stumps, but one a nightwatcher. I always love it when the nightwatcher gets out before stumps.

@MN5 Not sure I'm keen on it.

Didn't mind batsmen having runners - but, I think it's the luck of the draw - tough luck if you get injured! Too much scope for people to game the system depending on the state of the game.

I'm pretty concerned this innings might unfold similarly to the last test, with tiring Duffy, Foulkes and Rae becoming increasingly impotent on a pitch that becomes increasingly benign.

Then we end up having a huge score to chase down batting last...

More optimistically, early wickets tomorrow and we could end up not having too many to chase.

    @Chris-B
I don't agree with the concussion sub either. I don't understand how a sub for concussion is allowed, when most concussions are down to poor decision making or technique. Compared to a bowler or fielder getting injured, normally bad luck

Its a thorny one. Definitely scope for abusing the system that's for sure.

In the meantime while they're deciding if this comes into play or not.....

If any fast bowlers have the opportunity to dive to save a boundary they should be under strict instruction to just let the fucken thing go for four.

@MN5 Did Tickner at least manage to save a run? I haven't seen that incident!

Meanwhile, a fortuitous runout breaks a partnership and then Rae picks up Hope cheaply, so good inroads.

I think he saved two - although some nice sportsmanship from the Windies to not keep running as they probably could have run 4 by the time the closest player got to check on Tickner (maybe they thought it had gone for 4?)

5 done, still 3 behind. Game might be over by lunch time.

Wellington leading the way as always ( I have no idea if they have a say or not )

This test won't go through til Sunday though.

All Rounder ( three wickets @128 and hasn't bowled in three years ) Daryl Mitchell comes on to turn the arm over.

If we only have to chase 26, do we tempt fate?

    Foulkes gets Hodge for 35.

Another one before lunch would be damn handy, might even be Mitch who sneaks it !

That's a great catch, although made to look much harder by dropping the first attempt. (The first attempt still tricky though, that was absolutely hammered).

fun fact about Glenn Phillips, with a minimum of 25 wickets (yes i know thats low) he has the 6th best strike rate of any NZ bowler in test cricket.
only Bond, O'Rourke, Jamieson, Cowie and Paddles have better strike rates.

Mitchell is bowling overs that Phillips should be....not sure what the thinking is there.
