@MN5 yeah sorry didn't mean to imply Green was part of the fab 4.

Ravindra though? I mean I like him, but he's no Kane dubya.

Agreed. He could be a Rossco Taylor though.

That Marty Crowe sure knew his Cricket when he first mentioned them. Outstanding call.

That snicko cock-up is a bit of a shocker.

They're saying the operator must have loaded audio from the wrong stump mike. If that's the case - I would have thought the spike would have been after the nick rather than before - because wouldn't the sound have to travel the length of the pitch before it created the spike?

@Chris-B that's assuming the picture and audio was synced up correctly.

An utter shambles of a situation

The Daily Mail are awarding England the Moral Ashes (again).

    No they aren’t.

You don’t have to be a one eyed raving lunatic to think they have every right to be pissed off about this. Technology is supposed to overturn incorrect human error.

This has nothing to do with morals.

Yeah, I assume he/she did the mic at the bowlers end and it's picked up a completely different noise rather than the the actual edge. I don't think it has been confirmed if Snicko heard the actual edge, but Carey has said he thought he hit it.

    @MajorPom

My own view is that this is a nothing burger.

England thought it was a wicket so appealed. The on-field umpire gave Alex Carey not out. Carey admitted in the press conference that he felt something but he's under no obligation to walk and I'd encourage a player not to walk unless he's 100% certain he should be out and even then it's his choice.

England used a review, but the technology deployed didn't give sufficient evidence to overturn the on-field decision. So the TMO went with the umpire's decision.

Snicko's less good than the system used in England, but that's hardly news.

Just like when we had Haddin with a mark on his bat. I mean, that could have come from anywhere.

    Sorry what?

It's The Ashes. If they do not have the sufficient technology that's a huge problem

The question is why is the technology not as good as the system used in England? That's not acceptable.

The decision review system technology is mandatory in matches played in the World Test Championship, is provided by the host TV broadcaster of the home team.

In this series, the host broadcaster is Fox, which uses BBG Sports to provide Snicko.

In England, Sky Sports uses UltraEdge a French ball-tracking system which enables higher accuracy in review decision.

The review process was protracted, taking well over four minutes,

Overall, Cricket handles replays better than most other sports. But damn. 4 minutes!

@sparky ok - ultimately the embarrassment falls on the ICC. What a mess.

it was weird all round really. Carey thought he hit it, the snicko was obviously not right. But i was convinced i saw daylight between bat and ball (and so was the 3rd umpire).

    Oz added another 45.

Hopefully, that means the pitch is going to play well and England can post something competitive.

Comms saying it's a beautiful batting wicket - because the game will move so quickly still plenty of time for a result.

Yep, Starc and co showed with the bat that the pitch is good for batting. Now to see if England can make the Aussie top order pay for some of their casualness.

England will need someone to go big here, and not to fuck up against Starc (and probably Lyon). So, basically another Aus win.

    Damn!

Business as usual for the Poms top order after all. Can't play spin now.
