That's two resignations in two days for two major sporting bodies of NZ Sport

Relatively unlikely considering the circumstances in which he has left.

It'll be interesting to see what emerges from it all - if non-disclosure agreements don't render it a non-story...

A couple of idle conversations at the cricket yesterday. We couldn't quite see an NZT20 franchise league lasting more than 3-5 years (at least, at scale). Theory being it would launch fairly well, but then crowds would fall back towards the usual average, and the "big overseas backers" would soon lose interest.

We couldn't see it being a markedly improved offer for international players, while still in competition with the BBL.

Yeah I don't see why there's suddenly going to be a massive surge in interest. We also clash with the South African league as well. I don't know what the finances are like, maybe there are some clouds on the horizon.

The players all seem dead keen, but they never really articulate why other than saying it's a 'really exciting opportunity'. The associations are in too - also unclear what they see in it - maybe a sugar hit of cash when the initial franchises are launched?

Yep. "Excited about the opportunities" seems to be a barely veiled way of the top players saying there's big money in something for them these days. Whether it's the NZT20 franchise, Major League Cricket in the US, or skipping tours of Zimbabwe, etc.

And all well and good if that's the case, just be honest about it...
