    @Smudge

Yeah it was an Aussie and NZ thing.
But no one else was really interested.
Wouldn't have happened at that time if they hadn't been pushing it hard.

For most fans a 2-year window is necessary to organise travel, accommodation and logistics

    And raising the cash

You don’t have to wait for the draw to be made before you plan and save.

If the FIFA World Cup is drawn 7 months out from the start then there’s no excuse for the RWC to not be done in December 2026.
The FIFA World Cup is 5-10 times bigger than the RWC.

But you don’t want to be buying a ticket to Sydney if your team ends up being in Perth

I get that, but what I don’t get is that the FIFA world cup is about 8 months away, and it’s being staged across Canada, the states, and Mexico, with about 10 times more fans travelling, and the draw hasn’t been done yet. (I think it’s actually tomorrow).

    Riddle me that…

    Don't know.

Just know the typical UK rugby fan.

Lots travel with their clubs. Big groups.

Do they ever travel at relatively short notice, like say when their team wins a semi final and has to travel to another place for the final...?

Think the final would usually be at twickers? So no more than 4-5 hours and can be done in a day.

I don’t follow all this as close as most here ,

But at the last wc didn’t we have the top 4 sides on one side of the draw , therefore 2 being eliminated in the quarters and the talk was they were going to fix that . Now we have 1 and 2 potentially meeting in a quarter final.

I think you have massive problems in your tournament when it’s better to finish second than first in your pool , there has to be reward for excellence and incentive to win. Tempting teams to throw games is about as stupid as you wish for when setting this up.

Also there has to be incentive to be higher in world rankings or what are we playing for in between tournaments.
    .

Seems like the drums are beating that organisers will be taking the sensible option of playing the Wobs v ABs at Sydney.

And opening game will be versus either Chile or HK. The latter makes sense to me.

    Draw announced Tuesday.

Australia vs HK China is confirmed for the opening game.

The ABs start with Chile in Perth, Aust in Sydney, and then HK China in Melbourne.

I've registered my interest, but there are precious few games worth the travel expense. Unless i get tickets to the Wallabies game i doubt i will bother

Good ABs opener is only Chile, be on at 11.15pm here , but pretty sure not a lot will bother staying up for it. Wallabies at 9.15 so not too bad.

Whoops then read properly and saw the time of 6.15 was NZT and not Perth time.😖
    And Wallabies 7.10 our time.

Yep Mariner apart from Wallabies , I can't see too much interest in the pool games. Well except in maybe countries like HK and Chile .

The All Blacks’ round of 16 game will be in Brisbane assuming they top their pool.
