Not to sure if this podcast has ever been posted but there’s some fascinating listens with these guys
Have listened to Mathew Ridge,Andrew Merhtens and Sam Whitelock and their journeys over the Xmas & New Year periodThe one attached is with NZ Rugby Commercial manager Craig Fenton who did’nt stick around too long , fascinating listen the guy is super intelligent and it does make you wonder about why he moved on so quickly

This episode of Matty Johns' podcast with Brad Thorn is the best sports podcast I've listened to. The way he explains the difference between rugby and league should be required listening for the dickheads on both sides who claim the other game is soft etc.
Cheers Neps, This will be excellent, something to listen to in the garage gym tonight.
Brad Thorn to me is the greatest cross code player ever.
You're right about dickheads on both sides, Loigue munters claim union is soft, Union snobs claim League is played by dumb fluffybunnies with no brains.

Unreal
Every ferner should have a look
I'm putting his name on the list!Yeah that was terrific listening.
A really humble yet extremely driven bloke. The list of legends he’s played alongside in both codes is pretty long that’s for sure.
He really rates Ma’a Nonu ( wait til the end to hear that )
His explanation on the jobs of forwards in both codes was great too.
Also Matty Johns is worth a mention too, really funny and engaging and definitely rates and respects Union unlike a lot of insular league heads. I didn't realise the younger fella next to Thorn was his son.
Excellent podcast, @Nepia can certainly pick them better than he can pick movies

haha
yeah, it was nonu nonu nonu nonu nonu nonu nonu, until he got to lazo i think, but only cos he was a forwardhis thorough grasp of both codes was very impressive
I think still the only person to play for Aus at league and NZ at union (the best two rugby teams in the world)when i saw it was the johns podcast, it was a must watch
the entire johns family (GPs/brother/kids) are all nicely "out-there"
matty's wife does seem to have a bit of a struggle coping with them tho -

I think he went Gordon Tallis over Nonu because he had to go for a leaguie didn't he given that is what he played first ? ( will have to watch again ) but Nonu beat Umaga and Cullen amongst others ( who Thorn never played alongside I'm fairly sure )
.....and with all due respect to what Lote Tuqiri, SBW, Jason Robinson etc achieved Thorn did more than all of them, more so when you consider he did it in the forwards as opposed to the relatively easier transition of playing in the backs.

yep
nonu knocked out a lot of very very big names
might watch that bit again to remind me who they werehe agonised over cullen, they may have been in the same team in 2003
but he was obviously watching a lot of union in 90's when cullen was in his prime, while he was making the big time in league -
had quick look
started with Wendell knocking out Tuqiri
then Nonu knocked out Wendell
followed by
Renouf
SBW
Mils
Kevvy Walters
Tana
Carlos
Cullen
then he went for Tallis
who was then knocked out by Lazarus
who then knocked out
Jerry Collins
Webcke
Pietero
McCaw
Carter
Lockyear -

You leave my music out of this.
True, if he did this with Rugby guys you’d suspect Nonu, DC or McCaw would come out on top.
Interesting that he rated Sailor over Tuqiri, he probably thought in terms of league cos the latter was a far better Union winger.
