Looks like there is a new rugby movie about to come out.<br />
<br />
Got this email this morning:<br />
<br />
<br />
December 2010<br />
Dear Rugby Supporter: The United States Rugby Football Foundation invites you to explore the latest news from the USRFF, the Foundation for the Rugby Community.<br />
USRFF Benefits from New Rugby Movie "Play on"<br />
<br />
There's a new rugby movie coming out on Friday, December 17th called "Play On" that the USRFF encourages you to watch. Not only is it an entertaining movie, but a percentage of the proceeds from all views of the movie emanating from the USRFF will be donated back to the Rugby Foundation. <br />
The movie was written by former Eagles Sevens captain Al Dekin and Santa Monica and KC Blues prop Dave Story, who also directed the film. The storyline traces the path of redemption for a failed Scottish rugby star, Keirs Kilgore, who leaves his country and the shadow of his amateur era rugby legend father, to seek fame and fortune as a football player in America.<br />
<br />
After his failed attempt at football leaves him penniless and homeless, he finds redemption through an unlikely motley crew of social weekend rugby warriors who take him in. While playing at the lowest level of rugby he finds the true meaning of teamwork, loyalty and courage. This journey takes him back to his homeland where he once again has to choose between his ideals or those of his father.<br />
The film will have a worldwide online release on December 17, 2010 and can be viewed at www.playonthemovie.com. The USRFF will send out another release on Friday with the link where your viewership will benefit the Rugby Foundation. While the release of the film is still a couple of days away, you can become a fan of the Play On the Rugby Movie Facebook page to stay updated on launch date and upcoming promotions.<br />
Everyone who purchases a screening of Play On will be automatically entered to win a free trip for two to New Zealand , including travel provided by The Rugby Travel Company and accommodation, including a ticket to each of the semi-final matches. See official rules http://www.playonthemovie.com/blog/win-a-trip-to-new-zealand/.<br />

Had to stop it after one minute, that looks terrible! Low budget, cliche, predictable. He's hitchhiking in a kilt FFS. I almost wondered if it was a piss take, but it sadly appears not.

<br />
Devil...meh, sometimes good, sometimes not so good. Very short too, barely 1 hour 20 mins 6.2/10

I watched "Salt" on the weekend, and was actually really entertained. Pretty decent little action/thriller, and at times Ms Jolie looks super hot too.

The Town; Crime/drama/action, apparently in Boston they have the highest number of bank robbers than anywhere else, and most of them all come form the same suburb...7/10 starring and prodiced by Ben Affleck<br />
<br />
Tomorrow, when the war began - kinda like a nicer version of Red Dawn (for most of it) although I suspect the next one will get a bit more 'serious' 6/10

<br />
The suburb is Charlestown (aka "Charlesy") and unless those robbery stats include bank tellers slipping fivers into their pockets, then Affleck's boast about it being the bank robbery capital of the universe is almost certainly a nosestretcher. Still, a very enjoyable flick.

Hudson Hawk - Was on Sky on Christmas (or boxing day, can't remember). Stars Bruce Willis as a cat burgler who steals stuff while singing show tunes. Silly movie but fun none the less. 6.5/10.

Skyline<br />
<br />
SciFi flick where a bunch of strange Bright Blue lights come down into LA where the main characters are recovering from a party, then followed by huge spaceships sitting just above.<br />
<br />
Funny movie, some parts very very ordinary (acting,characters..very much B movie feel), but the rest was i felt very good, the CGI effects etc.<br />
Wee twist at the end and what was unoriginal plot (alien invaders) was turned in some very good ways.<br />
<br />
Def worth a watch, i see it rates very poorly over at IMDB.com with only a 4.6 rating. I feel thats harsh and would give it a solid 7/10...not a long movie, but enjoyable all the same.

Caught up on a bunch of films on dvd and at the cine this Christmas, and although I won't stick my neck out and say what the "best" film of 2010 is, I now have no hesitation awarding my "fave film of the year" to Kick-Ass. Was perversely delighted to see that it ranked behind only Avatar in the number of illegal downloads, and was actually ahead of Iron Man 2.

Have a week off from work so trawled through the local video shop and brought home a few selections from the week-release section. A couple of highlights:<br />
<br />
Seven Pounds. From about 2008, with Will Smith. Didn't really hear much about this when released, and didn't get great reviews. But I thought it was really good, and had me thinking for days after. A few twists and turns, and I am a big Will Smith fan and as always he is good. But worth a watch.<br />
<br />
The Final Winter. Australian movie from a few years back based on Rugby League in the 1980s. Not as much about footy itself but the players and introduction of big business into the game. I thought it was one of the best sports movies I have seen in ages, and the bloke in the lead (an ageing prop forward facing retirement) was superb. Matthew Johns as the coach was also surprisingly good. Not sure how widely this is available in NZ, but definitely one to see if you can.

What the heck possessed you to go see Tron? Everything about it looks awful.<br />
<br />
Is it a Box Office flop?

Agree that Tron it looks shi*t. It had a production budget of $170,000,000 and has so far grossed $245,400,864 worldwide. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Saw True Grit the other night and recommend it. It's a western about a 14 year old girl wanting revenge for the murder of her father.

I wanted to see a 3D film that was filmed in 3D. Apparently Avatar and Tron are the only two so far. The others all being reverse engineered into 3D according to article I read.<br />
<br />
And I liked the original Tron.<br />
<br />
Hopefully they re-re-release Avatar so I can see it in 3D.
