Jacobson looks to be by far your most important loose forward. Parker didn't play though.
Well Jacobson was easily the Chiefs best loose forward last year.

Yep absolutely. Out of their million AB forwards, he's the one who goes back to Super rugby and actually dominates like an AB should (not that I think he's the silver bullet or anything).

Yep, players these days can’t take any ounce of criticism without being offended which is why social media comments are hidden if they have even a slight hint of negative sentiment.
Bunch of pussies, they played like it to.
@Canes4life I mean I get it if there's swearing or if you're personally going after someone but all I did was comment a donut emoji lmao

It just makes them look soft and it was reflected in their performance.

I know it was a pre season match but gee the Hurricanes were poor.
Not convinced on Laidlaw as a coach if I'm being honest.

Pretty atrocious by the canes, no one really looking good.
Chiefs look like a much better coached.
I’m starting to have real doubts about Laidlaw as a coach. I just don’t think he’s good enough.
There’s enough quality cattle out there and they are playing like absolute muppets.@Canes4life said in Hurricanes vs Chiefs (pre season wk 2):

One of the things that needs to improve amongst NZ teams in 2026 across the board, I believe, is their urgency and coordination on attack in transition situations. To give just one example: near the end of the first half, Aumua busts through a (soft) double tackle attempt from Lord and Brown, and it creates a clear attacking opportunity for the Canes.

There is a massive hole just outside the first defender out of the ruck (Jacomb)This kind of ball demands a hard runner on an aggressive unders line close to the ruck, forcing a player like Jacomb into making a tackle he doesn’t really want to make. Instead, a trio of Canes forwards – Flanders, Dearns and Iose – drift into a passive overs line, leaving Enari with no runners onto the ball and resulting in the easy intercept for Rona, who simply steps into the space where the Canes’ runner was supposed to be.
The Aumua bust is a typical example of a ‘click attack’-scenario, where the disorganization of the Chiefs defensive line should result in a potential scoring opportunity. In this kind of situation – attacking break through the middle – the French have shown the effectiveness of flooding this channel one out of the ruck with interlinking forwards, further collapsing the defence onto themselves before releasing their quick backs out wide.
Of course, this isn’t the only way attacking momentum can be sustained after a break. But it is clear that the Hurricanes players weren’t on the same page as to how they were going to exploit any (half) breaks made, which is an issue in itself when you have players like Aumua, Iose and Fineanganofo in your side.
Until Kiwi teams find ways of sustaining this kind of attacking pressure after breaks, their transition and counter-attack will continue to suffer. I don’t think it’s a particularly easy fix either, as I believe it’s intrinsically connected to other issues such as an outdated playing philosophy (wide-wide attack through preset pods) as well as skill deficiencies (contestable kicking through 9 and 10).

Yeah we saw same deficienciess as last year. Poor ball security in the ruck area. Enari was dreadful, 1st 5, centres with poor distribution, terrible handling in general.
Although in good news our scrum and lineout looked good in the bits I watched. Hoping we can put all the poor play down to 'pre-season.' Like others, despite our talent I remain unconvinced about the team.
