Even he surprised after that win and time as he felt a bit leggy after the flight to the States. Seems like all he needed was to have that pace in a race and he was not only comfortable but had enough in hand to kick at the end. Would mean a 3.32 ish 1,500m is possible

For those that missed Ruthe's latest mile - he got stuck behind a couple guys earlier in the race and had to run a wide line to try get past - one guy in particular even stuck his arm out at one point to prevent him passing. Spent the first 800ish metres wasting energy on that, then by the time he got into 3rd for the second half of the race Hocker (current Olympics 1500m champ) was already setting up to kick for the final 3-400m.
Hocker ended up running 3:45.94, an American record for the indoor mile and 0.8 seconds off the overall world record.
Ruthe faded to 7th in 3:52.46. General consensus is that he would've had little chance of sticking to Hocker anyway, but was denied the opportunity by tactical errors early doors. Excellent learning experience.

It shows where expectation is for Ruthe - it is still 3 seconds faster than the record he only just set for the mile for a 16 year old.

Good for her, great run at her age and all that - but it's also a bit sad for NZ running that a 9:47 is good enough to win the U20's!
