        3 things.

        1. Ireland played a great game. To win is superb and to do it after blowing a massive lead is even better.

        2. Ireland were structured but not predictable. Constantly caught out the ABs when they tried to second guess them. Importantly kept on playing at 33-29.

        3. I'm still shaking my head at why Savea went right and not left. Left was huge space and a couple of fatties ahead so he went right and backwards into practically the whole Irish team.

No way we'll beat the Lions surely ......

@KiwiPie nope, we'll be lucky to pick up another win this year, let alone beating the Lions.

Eventually the Irish had to crack the duck and in the shadow of the Chicago cubs finally breaking a 108 year drought, why not?

Nice! I had a tenner on a draw at 90:1 which was looking amazingly good for a while there. Ended up with 25 quid at 14:1 on ireland coming in...
Am I a bad person for betting against the ABs? I just cant help myself when the odds are so long in a two horse race.

@rotated Agreed except I think comparing this side with 03 is a stretch. The 03 team lost a home game and also lost a knockout must win game. Obviously this could change with further losses in the next couple of weeks.

Well yes we can debate the merits of this sided in due time but losing a totally winnable game out of hubris and losing a World Cup semi against what goes down as a historically good side that got slaughtered earlier in the year - all in the eye of the beholder.

Well done to the paddies, they joined two pretty exclusive clubs today-they got their first win and put 40 on us which only a few teams have ever managed.
Haven't seen the game, not sure I want to.

Have we done a roll call of our Irish regulars? Pot Hale seems ok but I imagine NH fan has a blood alcohol level that would put Boris Yeltsin on his birthday to shame.

You have to look at whatever he says in the context of him being a complete and utter cock and as much use to the human race as Anne Franks drum kit.

@rotated isnt every game the ABs play winnable?

Dont think it was hubris, I think it was trusting in thier squad, they got it wrong, it happens.

I reckon there was some. I think with hindsight they'll eventually admit that - with the distractions of a promotional visit to Chicago included - they didn't dot the i's and cross the t's as well as usual this week. Then lose a third lock and the margin for error is gone.

We can get away with not playing until halftime against Argentina, but a few other teams aren't as forgiving...

Most fans grew up around 2008 when Henry was not sacked in a typical knee jerk fashion, as you describe above.

The more grown up approach has given us two more World Cups, a world record run of victories, etc, etc

It's sport, of course you'll lose the odd game. We generally lose one game a year, this year it's this one.

                                      No need for panic.

I agree with all that BUT if the national mindset becomes "we generally lose one game a year, this year it's this one" then that sows the seed of new/newish players potentially thinking "oh so thats how it works, we lose every so often, back to winning ways next week then, we'll start another winning streak next week, all taken care of, they really do think of everything in this organisation, what a great place to work!"

2 weeks later, no one's assumed responsibility (as we all know in any workplace fuckup, someone's always motherfuckign responsible) and it's "holy shit we fucking lost again? I thought it would get taken care of."

Dont worry, behind closed doors the group will be hurting , nothing surer ,

its up to them to fix it and I believe they will ,

the old heads must roll attitude never actually got us anywhere , we went around in circles

How the fans react has never been the same as what the players or management react.

Read was hurting big time in his after match comments, doubt he ever wanted to be known as the captain that had the first loss to Ireland.

Every All Black interviewed talked about what they could learn from the game, and how they could improve.

its interesting how quickly things can turn around in sport ,

it was only a few weeks back , we were looking so comfortable , people were actually complaining it is boring ,

now with a few injuries and a loss , we are under the pump ,

you can never take anything for granted , thinks can change in the blink of an eye
