Yeah, would be good if nature could settle the fuck down.

I'm fairly certain that's at Pinnacle Rock. Looks like it will take some time to clear - that's a sizeable slip. Hopefully everyone else is safe and sound.

Bloody hell.... almost worth blasting back as far as you can and setting up some form of barrier.
Geologically NZ is quite young. Over here we have the odd shake - I have never experienced earthquaker - but its a damn sight flatter, generally speaking.
Geologically Australia is boring as batshit. Nothing ever really happens. NZ on the other hand, dynamic as fuck - a Geologist's dream. Right on the boundary between the Australian and Pacific plate. Earthquakes, volcanoes, nowhere is safe. Good times!

The poor Olds had to evacuate in the middle of the night, thankfully able to head to high ground in jville. I see ferner chowie had to sit in a car in strathmore. Sucks. Sounds like no major damage to anyone I know thankfully!
the closest anyone will ever get to seeing these words in a sentence.

Well maybe some good will come out of this and a decent road from the top of the SI will be built. The Kaikoura Rd can then be cleared for a tourist route only.
Lyttleton Harbour's profits are going to take a jump for a while I guess while all road and rail freight to ChCh has to go by sea instead. Expect high petrol prices in the SI for some time. -

Thank goodnees Ritchie is there!
That is a massive hunk of pasture wiped out. Pretty much unfixable in terms of cost vs return.
That really is an incredible picture.
-
Yeah it sure is, utter destruction. All I can say is thank fuck the epicentre wasn't directly underneath a city - that would level just about any building.
-
I can reliably say there's flooding fucken everywhere at the moment. With tragedy there's always those stories in adversity that restore your faith that maybe there is a higher being watching us.....
mine was the news that 400 litres of beer that I brewed with a bunch of mates was completely unharmed.
How that story didn't appear on 3 news is beyond me. I blame Hilarys departure.

Would have been interesting times if Wellington had been flattened with a big storm following on its heels.
As it is, I see the Stats NZ building has had a floor collapse - nobody in it because the CBD buildings are still closed pending engineering reports etc, but had that been during the day with people at work...

Instead of the little whippsnapper rocks they get in the shaky isles
