Movie review thread...

Been on a bit of an Oscar/Golden Globe nominee watching fest. So far I have recently seen (in order of my favorite to least)

- The King's Speech
- The Fighter
- The Social Network
- 127 Hours
- Love and Other Drugs
- Black Swan
- True Grit

I really enjoyed The King's Speech and The Fighter. Both bloody good films, and Colin Firth and Christian Bale were amazing in them respectively. Also, True Grit's rating might be a bit low. I was pretty tired while watching, and fell asleep.

Due Date - solid funny film, has a bit of a flat spot in it, but overall, I liked it, 7.5/10
The Tourist - was ok, Jolie didnt need to do much other than strut around looking glamorous and speak now and again, Depp carried it a bit too (alot of Jack Sparrow comes through in this character too IMO) 6.5/10
Love & Other Drugs - was not quite what I expected, but pretty good, both leads are very good, also really like Oliver platt as an actor 7.5/10
Bit of a Funny Story - with the guy from Hangover and Due date; again, not as I expected, more a feelgood movie with a few funny bits, as opposed to a comedy (as described) 7/10 -
The Wrestler was shit. Really poorly written, crappy 16 mm, dull shit. Terrible movie that can't hold a candle to european social realism films. Just shit.

Portman is a poor actress and I doubt the movie is much chop. Check out some vintage Polanski instead ...
I was disappointed by The Wrestler, because Requiem for a Dream (which he also directed) was so good. As someone who used to watch a little WWF growing up, it more or less hammered home what a ridiculous carnie industry pro wrestling is... but not much else.

But Black Swan is pretentious melodrama at its best. Thoroughly deserved Oscar coming Natalie Portman's way. Been in some shitty films, most definitely, but I rate her. -
Portman was great in Black Swan. I thought the movie was pretty boring but Portman cetainly had a standout performance.

I thought Love and Other Drugs was absolute crap. Even the missus hated it.

The Fighter is great as are The King's Speech and The Social Network.

Am yet to see 127 Hours. Will probably see it in the next few weeks. -
Speaking of Matt Damon.

Saw True Grit (and at the movies i might add, not via Pirate Bay...)

Vaguely remember the original version with the Duke, was a very well made movie with some great performances. Especially from the young girl.
Jeff Bridges i thought was fine too, although its not a difficult role to play...crusty ole drunk with true grit...

I know its based more on the story then the 1969 movie, so unsure how true it was.
Just felt it didnt leave you much of a feeling at the end, i supposed they( her i mean) achieved what they set out to do, but seemed all a bit sudden for me.

Still worth seeing, solid 7.5/10 -
I really enjoyed True Grit. It did have quite an abrupt ending though. I did think it was a bit dark (lighting) in some places and I found it hard to understand what Jeff Bridges was actually saying.

Watched The Expendables and Predators on the weekend. Loved the dialogue in the Expendables. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Didn't really like Predators. -
Fucking gay!!!!!!!! (and I don't mean that in the man-on-man sense ...)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, producer Neal Moritz has brought in Twilight screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to take yet another stab at rebooting Highlander, the 1986 fantasy film about the magic of Scottish people.
-

C'mon Sean's spanish accent was dead on! Just like his irish(Untouchables) and his American(The Last Crusade). Just an outstandingly gifted imitator. -
You missed out Russian sub commander as well, faultless accent throughout! -
Just saw the Kings Speech last night. I was blown away by Colin Firth, an actor I like but didn't think he had that sort of performance in him. The film is very good, and could be a good play too. Seemed to just wiz by, pretty funny too - and desperately uncomfortable at times too.

If he doesn't win the best Oscar I'll be amazed. Actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up in end, great stuff. And Guy Pierce was fabulous as Mr Wallis Simpson. -
Total Recall was on Showtime Action last night. Fuck-king awesome. Arnie is without a doubt the worlds greatest action hero, ever.
-
Saw Avatar for the first time the other day. Yes the SFXs were amazing, brilliant in fact, but christ what a load of hippy cråp. Unobtainium? And whats the deal with plugging their hair into their pet pteradactyls? Sam Worthington is also a shit actor.

Piranha 3D: Sublime horror flick. Perfect combo of blood, gore, humour and T&A. Must be really good in 3D at the flicks. That cock scene would never have been allowed even 5 years ago.

Good Luck Chuck: Fark what a load of elephant shit. The gimp who plays Chuck is cråp beyond belief. God knows why Jessica Alba chose to be in the film but having said that I can't exactly think of a single good film she's actually been in.
