Movie review thread...

The Arrival: Getting a lot of hype but actually left me feeling a bit meh. Well acted, kind of interesting story, but I just thought it was ok.
The Accountant: This one is getting shit, but it was actually a decent thriller/action movie.
The Big Short: I just recently re-watched The Big Short on a bus in Malaysia. It was still good a second time round.
The Founder: About Ray Kroc and McDonalds, Keaton is really good in this and it's a good story. I read the book it was partially based on so the story wasn't new to me.

@taniwharugby Agree, except with Affleck it's only his acting, they love the stuff he directs. Also, I think he got credit as being the good thing in Batman v Superman.
I do sometimes wonder what some critics want from their movies, I have a low bar that usually involves being entertained. Do that and I'm happy. That's my main issue with Snyder's films, I get actively bored through them (well since 300) while still being able to enjoy something like Suicide Squad even though it's not a great movie.
But I guess we're all opinionated as fuck, I'm as likely to illogically dislike something as the next guy.

@Nepia you like what you like...plenty of movies in here have been slated and i either enjoyed or thought was ok, while others i thought was shit and others liked...
I still havent watched Batman v Superman, more cos i dont really like Superman...

It's at least 50% a Batman movie if that helps ...

As they say, opinions are like arseholes... A "critics" opinion is no more valid than yours or mine.
An example, I watched the restored version of Spartacus last year - all 3 hrs+ of it. This is a movie that won 4 oscars and is rated amongst the best movies ever made. Even accounting for the fact that is was made in 1960 I thought the movie was slow-paced and boring.

I think that movie holds up terribly. Spartacus is just so unbelievable because he is such a perfect and idealised character. I think Ben-Hur holds up mostly well (until the Jesus stuff at the end). Mostly because the action scenes in that film are both incredible.

Serenity
Had never seen it start to finish, and as it was on Netflix, thought of give it a crack.
Whedon's fans want to blow him. I don't quite see it that way, and never watched the Firefly series, but he's done a decent job here, even if it is a bit disjointed.
Was that the chick from Deadpool?
Anyway, 2.5 out of 5 Summer Glau arse kickings
-
@NTA Yep. Refer to our previous discussion about Morena Baccarin. Serenity is thought of as the sequel to Firefly as Season 2 was never made despite the fan demand. Firefly is worth watching if you like sci-fi and the Joss Whedon humour.
BTW, Chiwetel Ejiofor is the Operative. He's gone on to bigger and better things.

@mariner4life just didn't like the disjointed feel to the movie. Obviously budget wasn'tt huge, and some of the acting was mumbling.
-
I dont think I have seen Serenity, but then I only watched Firefly a year or 2 back...sweet, another movie to watch

You would have enjoyed the movie more if you had watched the series first.

Ah right. Bit of assumed knowledge the movie didn't get to cover?
Will see if I can track it down
It's worth it. I have passed on the geek curse though, just as you really get into it, it ends and you know there is no more.
Then you'll enjoy the movie.
Series sets up the characters really well, and has time to do it properly.
