Just to keep it local, I have a lot of time for Dave Dobbyn, hate hate hated DD Smash. That piston wristed gibbon who played drums, Rooter or whatever his name was - I refuse to google it cause I just know he's the type of drittsekk that cares about these things - irritated me no end.

That is all, as you were.

    Drittsekk? Snakker du norsk?

It was funny to see this thread morph from one song you hate of a style that you like - into bands that you hate in about 5 posts.

Although, I can't actually think of an example myself. 😉

I was big on the Grunge scene and loved Pearl Jam, Nirvana etc etc.

"I was so Grunge" that when I heard 'MMM MMM MMM' by Crash Test Dummies I zipped out and purchased the album! Woah was I gutted. In saying that I do like MMM MMM MMM MMM and one of their other songs that escapes me at the moment

You're so mainstream right now Hooroo......

@SammyCs description of Dire Straits is ridiculously apt. I take exception to him dissing the Grohlster though....

Hooroo, you WERE into the grunge scene? Past tense?

My playlists on spotify are all built around the grunge scene - that and hard rock/metal. Still my favourite genre.

Any bands or songs left for me to throw in the mix? We can't be far off naming a complete TSF Marbecks. 🙂

Anything at all by Pink Floyd. "Yeah I'm just smoking some bad Tibetan skunk oil but I'm not quite comatose yet. Can you play something to put me to sleep?"

Pink Floyd is a funny one. As if you listen to a lot of their album at the wrong time, then you are damn right. But some of their stuff, just really works.

    1. Comfortably Numb. One of the best song / solo combos ever
    2. Wish You Were Here.
    3. Dark Side Of The Moon. At the risk of sounding all pothead/bullshit/whacko .. that album really is a journey. After a stressful day, pouring a steaming hot bath (or sitting in a jacuzzi) and then having the room quite dark, with that album start to finish .. is one of the best things ever. No narcotics required.

@mariner4life That is a great song, undoubtedly, but even on that album, i'd put it behind Us and Them

Almost anything on the Top 40

I looked at this list and was amazed at how many I'd skip if it was on Spotify or change the radio.

One of these days by pink floyd would be one of my favourite songs to run to. I usually chuck it on at the bottom of a hill.

They've got a mountain of shit in their back catalogue though . Pretty much all of the final cut for example.

Agree with Rancid re Nirvana , if Cobain hadn't killed himself I doubt they would still be as popular now as they are.

No correspondence will be entered into this one but a fair part of the Foo fighters back catalogue sounds pretty similar and tedious to my ears . I think a decent part of their success is due to Grohls nice guy/everyman persona .

Eurythmics were popular when i was a kid I don't know if anyone remembers the video to sisters are doing it for themselves but it deserves as much grief as that pile of crap bowie and jagger did. The song sucked too. Aretha must have been on something very strong in the 80s.

REM , shiny happy people. Really just what the fuck? Michael Stipe says fans give him shit about it to this day and he deserves every bit of it.

If you want definitive proof the Doors were shit, listen to a live album . Morrisons voice is very very average but on his studio albums they over dub them three or four times to make them sound better, same as people like Ozzy Osbourne.

Oh yeah and since its xmas that Felice Navidad song would send me into a homicidal rage if I worked in a mall.

If you want to torture yourself YouTube Feliciano doing come on baby light my fire

@antipodean That is a screaming pile of shit. Scroll down to read how Billboard came up with this list ... and then there is no explanation

It can only be hallucinogens and a piss take. I would maybe listen to 8. Even when there are OK artists they have generally chosen their pappiest option.

Any list that has Sugar Sugar by The Archies - a song the CIA should use as a replacement for water boarding just has to be a total work of fiction.

I still wake in the night remembering that song playing on the radio as my under 9's League team drove in the back of the coaches ute from practice. All the other kids were singing along.

I quit the team. Hard man's sport - whatever!

It was more of a thing back then. Now I don't have a genre I am 'into' I like a stack of music with more guilty pleasures than I wish to name!
