Great to see a certain iconic villain get his hands dirty albeit pretty briefly.
I'm pretty keen to discuss further but don't know how to do spoilers so everyone who doesn't want to see should just stay away from this thread til they see it.
Some truly brilliant action. It does take a bit to get going overall ( minor gripe )

It's fucken sensational. Waaaaaaayyyyyy better overall than the force awakens.
@mariner4life @taniwharugby @Virgil just fucken see it so I can write stuff up without spoilers.
There are some awesome gratuitous cameos from numerous familiar faces and as expected ties in with a New Hope brilliantly.
My trust in you is marrow deep. I'm officially looking forward to this now. Just 1h30 to go.

Right... Spoilers galore here so read at your peril.
First things first, I left happy. It was a million times better than TFA and its a bit of a shame that this gang won't be seen again. I still think the whole Samurai stick thing was shit but the character was incredibly likeable, as was his hairy mate. Yes very satisfied me.
But, there are criticisms...
I thought the 2 main characters were poorly cast. Female hero is fine but can they at least make her realistic, not some 5 foot waif who can fling storm troopers around. Main dude was ridiculous. He looked like farking Steve Urkel standing in front of his tough as nails crew. A very odd casting decision.
The Forrest Whittacker character was also ridiculous. I get he's nuts, but that was Wizard of Oz shit.
But, everything else was pretty damn cool. The final Vader scene gave me a serious horn.
I still think the new trilogy will be a train wreck but I have high hopes for these filler films. If only these dudes had been given the prequels.
-
Oh yeah oh yeah. That CGI stuff of Gold Leader, Red Leader and Biggs was farking cool. And lardarse Red 5 was hilarious.

I loved seeing Tarkin on screen again. Shit he is a cool bad guy.
I came seriously close to spilling DNA in the cinema when DV dealt to those rebel scum. A showdown between him and Samurai bloke would have been cool though. The gun his mate had was ruthless....far more effective than the mass produced shit the stormtroopers have. I was literally counting the seconds until FWs character bit the dust and can we assume 'I have the death sentence in 12 systems' and his mate caught a transport before the city was obliterated?
I agree about whatshername being as tough as she was....let's not forget Luke was an absolute bitch in a fight until Obi Wan trained him.
I reckon it started pretty slow but that final battle ? Wow. AT ATs aren't so tough when there's some serious firepower huh?
-
I thought the main bad dude (Kraddic or something) was excellent.
Buuuuuut, what was Lea doing in a Corvette from a Calamari flagship in the middle of that battle? Bit of a hole that...

Bear in mind it was about 2 in the morning so i might be wrong but hadn't the dying rebel handed off the plans to his mate and they escaped ? ( also couldn't DV have used the force to grab them? )
He was a good bad guy but a bit of a pussy compared to DV and MT
It's hardly a spoiler but it was a bit of a downer that every single member of Rogue one bit the dust in the end. New territory for a SW film.
Hope my boys cope seeing it on Saturday with me!

I think that was the one downer for my eldest. Seeing every single one get killed was pretty tough for him to stomach. The droid too, who was a billion times cooler than 3PO.

He was cool. Very strong too. How come whatshername took out the bad version with one shot but the stormtroopers took about a million shots to finish him off?

Nerd alert*
Apparently the walkers were a slightly earlier model than the ones that kicked arse on Hoth.
They looked a bit tinny.
It took an absolute age for the TIE fighters to launch though.

I thought it was a good fun and a little bit dark movie to watch.
Good action, decent comedy, and they didn't blow the ending of a suicide mission.
I do wish that a younger Admiral Ackbar was the captain of the hammerhead ship that smashed into the Destroyer though.
Peter Cushing is looking good for a 100+ old dude.

She wasn't a farm girl when we first meet her, she had been with Forest Whittakers cell for years and was in prison presumably for doing bad ass shit against the Empire so she clearly already had some skills.

Good point about Jyn I'll wear that.
Obviously fish faced blokes are tactical geniuses in battle, they kick ass !
Some piston wristed gibbons on Facebook are saying it's too dark to take kids to, obviously they've moaned all they can about Trump and Key. Firstly in all the rest of the movies everyone dies at some stage aside from the droids, luke and Leia and chewie. Secondly my kids will kick me repeatedly in the nuts if i don't take them.

Anyone seen the 3D version yet? Like TFA I watched the normal version first but will see it in 3D over Xmas.
As to the movie, good to see some nuggets in Rogue One to satisfy the fanboys (and girls).
The ending could have been done a little better, given R2D2 makes an appearance earlier but it does provide the transition between Ep 3 and 4.
K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) was the scene stealer.
The final scene with Jyn and Cassian reminded me of These Final Hours.

Another nitpick. At the start of ANH it says that the alliance had won their first battle over the empire.
In this film they caused some serious damage but they can hardly be said to have won. They even lost their largest ship and top generals. In fact, had they not got hold of the plans, this would have been a catastrophic loss.
