Well, Pakistan will rue dropping Smith earlier in the day. While he has to get back into the groove this afternoon, there are a few morning showers around Brisvegas which might help with the swing side of things on a ball that is only 10 overs old.

Both Renshaw and Hanscomb are flipping the bird at the older heads in Australian cricket right now, having made this cricket thing look fairly easy against South Africa and now Pakistan, and neither attack are composed of mugs.

2 wickets and 80-odd runs in the first session, 1 wicket and 90-odd in the second, and 0 for 100+ in the third.

If things continue this way, it looks ominous for the tourists. Starc and Hazlewood, under lights, with a new ball tonight. Hmmm...

Still, the Pakistan team has some good pace bowling and a decent spinner, and just need to get their planning together to cause a quick collapse and chase less than 400 for a first innings lead.

@booboo one assumes Smith will receive the same level of treatment as Stuart Broad now?

And finally they hold one. Smith 130.

New boy Maddinson out there against some heat from Wahab

Handscomb better get a wriggle on here, or he could get stranded short of a ton.

Maddinson fucked up too - wide ball from Wahab, chased it, out for 1. That's his Test total in two innings. Averaging 0.5 with a SR of shit.

Holy fuck. Hazlewood removed the new kid Babar with a fairly ordinary delivery caught at slip, then takes Younus Khan with a very nice delivery, first ball. He's on a hattrick.

Pakistan reeling at 8/97. Fucking carnage in the last session which was a mixture of great pressure bowling and utter WTF from some of the Pakistan batsmen.

15 wickets fell for the day as the Pakistan bowlers found their rhythm as well. The wicket was a little tougher to play on by the looks, but there is some serious heat out there with Wahab and Starc climbing into the high 140s.

Pakistan are 332 behind. They've faced 43 overs. If they fall quickly this afternoon, you'd struggle to think why Smith wouldn't ask them to follow on, as the new ball will come in at the end of the day's play, even with the innings break.

Hazlewood is in menacing form, and Starc and Bird are backing him up nicely. The latter has an economy rate of 0.77 FFS! Lyon probably unlucky to miss out on the wickets BUT if he doesn't slow his pace he's not going to get those balls bouncing, ripping, and popping up.

Having said that, Wade missed a sitter of a stumping. Yeah... he's in the team because of his keeping...

Though one. Probably Bird gets dropped for Pattinson as he has better control than Cummins.

Kind of disappointed we didn't get a look at Chadd Sayers ahead of Nathan Lyon.

Steve Smith has "steel" Mark Nicholas? And Khawaja learned it off him? The fluffybunny plays like it's the back yard. Scores freely and regularly, and at times looks like he could score runs with his cock.

Lets judge his steel when (if) the slump comes and he needs to find a way to grind out a score.

Langer had steel. Smith has outrageous talent.

Interesting article by Brett Geeves on the current coaching pathways in Aus cricket

ex players may not be the best choice

essentially he's saying the established method of good ex-players make good coaches is holding Aus cricket back.

I mainly post because there is a trend in NZ rugby for the same thing, and i would really hate for NZ rugby to go the way of Aus cricket.

I think NZ Rugby probably got over that kind of blind good-player-good-bloke-good-coach thing after Mitchell?

It has become a little inbred, and quite frankly I think that's due to Sutherland being in the job too long - 15 years as CEO after 3 years as GM.

Additionally, Channel 9 needs to fucking fire half their commentary team and replace them with more humble people who aren't either self-impressed piston wristed gibbons, or sycophants.

                                        Like that article M4L.

This is on a similar note - https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/nov/23/australia-need-to-look-beyond-hardness-and-aggression-to-fix-batting-woes

Cricket is a very different beast to the winter codes, and I get that the coaching role is very different. When Lehmann came onto the scene he was lauded for his simple approach that empowered the playing group. But with such an inexperienced side I'm not sure it's the best option for the current team...

LOL fucking hell we're about to lose this Test unless some serious planning gets underway. 60 runs for them, 2 wickets for us.

Highest 4th innings total at the Gabba already, will be a world record 4th innings to win!
