I thought it was a good fun and a little bit dark movie to watch.
Good action, decent comedy, and they didn't blow the ending of a suicide mission.
I do wish that a younger Admiral Ackbar was the captain of the hammerhead ship that smashed into the Destroyer though.
Peter Cushing is looking good for a 100+ old dude.
agree about whatshername being as tough as she was....let's not forget Luke was an absolute bitch in a fight until Obi Wan trained him.
She wasn't a farm girl when we first meet her, she had been with Forest Whittakers cell for years and was in prison presumably for doing bad ass shit against the Empire so she clearly already had some skills.

Good point about Jyn I'll wear that.
Obviously fish faced blokes are tactical geniuses in battle, they kick ass !
Some piston wristed gibbons on Facebook are saying it's too dark to take kids to, obviously they've moaned all they can about Trump and Key. Firstly in all the rest of the movies everyone dies at some stage aside from the droids, luke and Leia and chewie. Secondly my kids will kick me repeatedly in the nuts if i don't take them.

Anyone seen the 3D version yet? Like TFA I watched the normal version first but will see it in 3D over Xmas.
As to the movie, good to see some nuggets in Rogue One to satisfy the fanboys (and girls).
The ending could have been done a little better, given R2D2 makes an appearance earlier but it does provide the transition between Ep 3 and 4.
K-2SO (Alan Tudyk) was the scene stealer.
The final scene with Jyn and Cassian reminded me of These Final Hours.

Another nitpick. At the start of ANH it says that the alliance had won their first battle over the empire.
In this film they caused some serious damage but they can hardly be said to have won. They even lost their largest ship and top generals. In fact, had they not got hold of the plans, this would have been a catastrophic loss.

Just got back from taking 6 year old CFJ to the movie. Took a while to get going as they explained the back story but I thoroughly enjoyed the film. So did he after he stopped asking to go home over and over during the first 30 minutes.... The acting was a major step up compared to Lucas directed films, I don't know how bad the film was to need all the supposed re-shooting but it looked great. Also good to see Vader kick some ass, making short work of the rebel soldiers instead of leaving it to his stormtroopers like in Ep4. Four imperial probe droids out of five for me

Out of all the characters in the SW universe, why choose a probe droid????

Gotta get out more to appreciate a probe droid? Are you a dentist or a proctologist?

FFS Dr Drill, it was a joke. Lighten the hell up. It was just a bit of juvenile humour.

Back on point I thought the film was far better than ep7

Yes I really enjoyed it. Didn't like Ep 7 and at all and felt Disney did a much better job here. Sad thing is, they could have potentially built a trilogy based on these guys (like the series). That droid in particular would be a massive hit. Think they missed a good opportunity there.

If it does well it should mean Disney will be eager to roll out more films on the periphery of the main SW storyline

Saw it this arvo. Loved it, a fucking great adventure film set in the Star Wars universe. It jumped around at the start but then barely took a breath until a very satisfying conclusion.
I loved the tie in to Star Wars as well.
Like others, enjoyed seeing DV as a bad as motherfucker scaring everyone. The entire series needed that.

Took my boys on Saturday and it takes a lot to keep a six and right year old glued to a screen for more than a coupl of hours. This flick accomplished that and then some. Future mrs MN5 said it was the best Star Wars she's seen and I've made her sit through them all. I think that in itself speaks volumes although naturally there are a few esteemed 'critics' who marked it low because there's obviously not enough Reasons and Rattues in the world....
Fucken awesome on second viewing as expected....
Did admiral akbars fish faced cousin die at the end when the shop was boarded? I assume he did.
Also @Rancid-Schnitzel it was definitely a victory....they got the plans even though so many of them died.
@mariner4life did your boys love it as much as mine?

I find the image of Akbar's green relative tied to a chair getting the brass nuckle treatment to be absolutely hilarious.
In terms of objectives, I guess it was a win but only if those plans get to their target. They were far from safe at the start of ANH.
My kids enjoyed the film, but all the main characters getting killed is pretty tough on them. I can't recall a film from my childhood when every single one of the heroes dies.
I think I mentioned it above, but how funny was the death of the pie-eating Red 5? Fark that had me in tears.

The death thing concerned me a bit but then if you think about it in the whole saga Han, Obi Wan, Mace Windu, Yoda, Qui Gonn etc all bagged it on screen so my boys are used to loads of their hero's not making it.
Too early to say where it sits in the Star Wars echelon.....but did anyone NOT think it was heaps better than TFA?

Hey, Yoda died of old age.
I guess the difference here is that we just got introduced to the characters and then they bought it. Another film or 2 would have been nice. Every single one of them got wasted as well. Even Green Akbar apparently.
IMHO this film highlighted just how shit and unoriginal TFA was.

Now now...Star Wars, like sex and pizza, is never 'shit'...some is better than others that's all.
It's probably a toss up between TFA and TPM for 'worst' Star Wars movies in my opinion but in saying that they're both still fucken decent which sums up the series as a whole. In no way do they slum it with the worst of Indiana Jones, Jaws, Alien etc.
