With all the stuff around my solar/battery system, I googled "electric motorbike" thinking there'd be a few dud machines out there for hipsters.

Instead I found this:

http://www.zeromotorcycles.com/au/

And this review:

http://www.gizmag.com/zero-sr-2014-electric-motorcycle-review-test-ride/32015/

Never, EVER going to tour on one of those things, given the charging times, but jeez the potential is big as the tech advances.

Are you my WT cousin? She puts about 15 posts per day on FB (no exaggeration) of this sort of shit about motorbike riders. For the most part I ignore it, but every now and again I bite on the posts which say they are better parents as their kids ride motorbikes.

@raznomore did you end up getting a bike?

6 months ago I jumped back into the saddle after 15 years on the sideline and I am loving every minute of it. I can’t believe I left it so long to get back on. Mrs Crazy Horse is a convert and we get away as often as we can.

As I clock up the miles around South East Queensland and Northern NSW the memories flood back. The way you can go from breathing in the aromas of blossoming flowers to holding your breath as you try not to inhale roadkill. The pure joy of being at one with the bike gliding through twisties. The intense concentration when you get in the zone. The constant wrist pain and the body stiffness after hours in the seat. The cold beer after a hard days ride. The easy conversation you always seem to strike up with other bikers.

After six months riding my Blackbird I traded her in two days ago for a more comfortable bike. The sore wrists and the stiff suspension got to me in the end. It is funny how one can become so attached. There was almost a tear in my eye as I dismounted from her the final time. I felt guilt as I parked her next to my new ride. I said goodbye and thanked her for a wonderful six months. I didn’t look back as I rode away on my new flame.

I always felt the Blackbird was a little disappointed in me. It always seemed like she was begging me to ride her harder. Hopefully she will go to a new home with a rider who will give her what she desires...

@Crazy-Horse - done the Gwydir Highway from Grafton to Glen Innes? Some nice subtropical forest up there.

@NTA Yeah I rode that a couple of months ago. Enjoyed the ride a lot. Mrs Crazy Horse and I go down to Yamba every few weeks but I had no idea of the roads west of Grafton until the Blackbird. I have been in Qld since 2002 and it's only since I got the bike that I have been getting to know the area. Who would have thought there was interesting countryside around Warwick and Towoomba?

Any other suggestions would be welcomed. I hear there are nice roads west of Coffs Harbour.

Oh shit yeah - if you head south from Coffs to Raleigh, you get the turnoff for The Waterfall Way to Dorrigo. From there, you can head west to Armidale, then back up the New England to Warwick or cross over on the Gwydir from Glen Innes, or Bruxner from Tenterfield.

I once took the back road from Woodenbong to Warwick, which was a bit of fun for my old Uni-student Toyota Corona, but was at night 😉 Not sure if they've sealed that road.

If you've got a bit more time, the drive from Port Macquarie west via the Oxley Highway is also quite nice, but might get a bit samey by that point.

The high country in summer is also great. Might be a bit far from Brissy though? 🙂

Highcountry is Victoria. It's to the West of the Bonang over the range.

Bonang is mainly in Victoria. You turn off at Bombala to Delegate and then it runs into Orbost in SouthEast Victoria.
