So now that the rebels have the plans for the Death Star, I take it Darth just cans it and starts again?

Who knows what's gonna happen but I reckon if the rebels can track down someone who can bullseye Womp rats from a T16 then they're in with a chance

Looks like it may be a good idea to binge on SW Rebels if you haven't been watching it. It has moved on from being a kiddie show to being an important part of the new canon showing the formation of the Rebel Alliance. Vader makes appearances and Darth Maul is somehow glued back together to become a multi faceted character. Some interesting stuff coming about the Mandalorians (possibly setting up the Boba Fett movies we all want). They have also invested heavily in the development of the main character Ezra and it is difficult to see how he doesn't somehow become a part of the general movie background given that he must either die or go off on some force related mission after his friends die ( I guess he is around Luke's age).
The appearance of Alec Guinness era Obi Wan facing Darth Maul again could be pretty good too.

Foxtel has just run the seven Star Wars movies back to back to back ... a couple of times.

I was a fan of the original trilogy, and obviously the first one (Ep IV).

So having not very strong memories of the prequels I have recorded them.

    Watched Episode I this arvo.

My god what an unmitigated piece of shit of a movie.

    Gungan army?
    Jar Jar fucking Binks?

    The story barely held together.

Fuck me he spent half an hour on a meaningless pod race when he could have actually explained Jedis, Sith, Trade Federation, and given some depth to the characters.

The CGI looked like a cartoon. Ever seen 'Atlantis:The Lost Empire'?

You nerds need to be ashamed of yourselves.

If you've ever seen 'Fanboys' it makes the line about "Dude, what if this turns out to be crap?" even funnier.

Really really disappointed. Which reminds me what I thought when I first saw it.

Will subject myself to Ep ii and Ep iii some time in the coming weeks ... but iirc i never saw iii as by halfway through ii I had lost interest.

You make some good points and it's definitely the weakest of all the flicks.

The points are voided somewhat by the fact it's Star Wars and therefore still awesome.

The idea that DM survived and then takes on Hermit Kenobi 30 years later is mightily shit. I enjoyed the Clone Wars series but it was retarded when they brought back DM with lobster legs. It's even worse that he apparently survived those times and somehow meets up with Obi Wan. C'mon, I can't be the only person here who thinks this is jumping the shark or even nuking the fridge.

Is Darth Maul surviving considered 'canon' as Boba Fett is? ( for what it's worth I consider the latter surviving much more plausible )

Maul is canon thanks to the Clone Wars, don't think Fett surviving is.

I thought it was the other way round?

My boys have told me all about the clone wars and lots of cool characters like Savage Opress, Cad Bane etc. I must have a marathon with them next rainy shitty day!

If it happened in the Clone Wars or Rebels cartoons then it's canon. Anything after Return of the Jedi was reset by the Force Awakens and the old stories referred to as Star Wars Legends.

We've seen one thing from the EU come back, Thrawn in Rebels. But nothing about Fett.

Rumours have been circulating that the Fett movie is back on. Be cool if they end it with an escape from the Sarlacc.

Fett was underused in the original trilogy just as his old man and Darth Maul were in the first. Attack of the Clones would have been great if it started with OWK fighting DM after years of tracking him down for example.....

Apparently Rebels had to do a bit of a tidy up at the end of last season to make the EU tie in better with the way the last movie portrayed things. There are strong rumours that this season will be the last to stop over complicating things further.
I think Maul may have been necessary to have a character that dark/light side force expositions could bounce off.
Probably likely that Kanaan will be killed off along with Maul and presumably Ashoka (the inquisitors already have been). The interesting part would be if Ezras future is left up in the air.

Is the CW series canon? I recall Annakin dueling with Dooku which doesn't tie in with Ep3 at all.

Yep, and they did a great job of making Anakin's fall make sense. If only these writers had their hands on the movie scripts.

I did catch the animated movie made a few years ago. There was some cool battle scenes but Anakin being nicknamed 'Skyguy', his irritating padawan, Jabbas son and uncle ( was he some kinda fucken space lounge singer? ) were misfires of Jar Jar like proportions.

That was a low start, but they got their shit together by the end of that first season. Ashoka was annoying as hell to start with and ended up an awesome character.

Being a cartoon, and with the number of episodes, there will always be weak elements. But as a whole, far superior to the prequel movies.

Rebels a bit the same. It's like they keep the options open on what audience they catch so either go all out for the kids or start to tie in with the main stories.
Rebels has found that with R1 coming out they are getting very close in timeframe to the movies so need to get their house in order for any potential overlap.
Bringing Obi-wan in seems to me that he would now be aware of Ashoka being alive along with Kanan and Ezra so unless something drastic happens it kind of screws up the whole 'Luke is the last hope' thing.

Just checked this and you are 100% correct. That also means that all that stuff with him and the Mandalorians is also canon. Look I get why they wanted to bring him back. He's farking cool and Lucas stupidly "killed him off" way too early. But dammit, he was cut in half and then fell hundreds of metres. Bringing him back is really weak.

Thing is when I first saw the trailers for ep1 I thought Maul would go all the way to ep3 and be a constant thorn in the side of the Jedi. He was a fan favourite even BEFORE anyone saw the film. As much as I admire Chrstopher Lee, Dooku was a pretty lame character. Stupid name as well.

Are you fucken kidding me? Dooku was an awesome character although much of that is down to Lee as an actor.

Darth Maul is way overrated. One dimensional in the extreme....and lost to a padawan.

All Lucas had to do was have Obi-wan kick Maul into the shaft and leave his fate up in the air, but no he had to slice him in half.
