Did a bit of Netflixing (but sadly not enough "and chill") over the holidays

Designated Survivor. Someone blows up the entire US Gov't, leaving a nobody to run the joint. Conspiracy!! Once you get over the fact that it's an act of terrorism, and Jack Bauer isn't fucking people's shit right the hell up, it's an enjoyable little watch. Not top draw TV by any means, but very watchable. No titties, little actual violence.

Last Chance U. Documentary about East Mississippi Community College's football program. Playing in Div 2 College football, it's like a halfway house for guys to get in, or back, to top schools if their grades are rubbish, or they got kicked off a roster for other issues. It's quite an interesting look at a football program, and the attitudes of the kids involved. Couple of big egos, some really dumb country boys, and some kids from bad backgrounds. All coached by a good old boy who coaches by bawling them out repeatedly (which has the expected response).

If you've got kids, Troll Hunters on Netflix is pretty bloody good too.

    Designated Survivor.

I watched right up until the line of dialogue was "thank you for your service." "No, thank you Mr President". 🤢

That would've been the first 10mins.

@antipodean haha yea, there is a bit of that. Look, i'm not heralding it as a great piece of TV drama, it's just a decent TV show to watch when you don't want anything too heavy

Also gave designated survivor a good go...eventually got to the point after a few episodes where the flatmate and I were spending more time cracking up laughing at the sheer cheesiness of it than taking it seriously. USA! USA! USA!

Weird thing about designated survivor is that Kal Penn who was in the Harold and Kumar films did actually work for Obama and they had to write a weird suicide story into House to cover for his abrupt exit.

That was one of the rare episodes of House where the patient didn't come in with a disease, they got the first diagnoses wrong almost killed the patient and House saved the day by defying protocols and using something experimental and or untried.

watched a trailer for a new series called Taboo bu Ridley Scott, starring Tom Hardy, looks like it could be a good watch.

If you enjoy shows where it is near impossible to understand what is going on because the characters mumble in the dark and it swings around between reality and what I assume is the weird state of hardy's mind then go for it.
I have absolutely no idea what is going on.

@mariner4life if you haven't read the books it is ok (one of my friends watched it who hadn't read the books) if you have read the books, you will probably be disappointed with it, although if you are able to accept books sometimes need (although not always...) to be a bit different you might still like it. Some parts I liked, some I hated.

Also understand the 2nd season will divert further from the books cos they reckon changing the entire cast (as the books have pretty much all bar 1 different ) is bad for keeping fans.

@Crucial how many eps? Thought only 1 had aired?

@Crucial I usually wait for 2-3 eps to be up before giving it a crack.

I like Tom Hardy, thought he was excellent in Peaky Blinders, so will probably still give it a shot.

I've got one episode to go. I needed to put on subtitles to understand almost everyone. Clearly education isn't valued much by poor black people in Mississippi. And the head coach; "Buddy Fat Fuck" is a retard.

@antipodean they had to subtitle half of the line men, especially Robert Ollie.

If you don't like Buddy now, you wait until the end of the last episode.

How much did you want to hit John Franklin? What an arrogant little fluffybunny. Real team player...

He should transition into a career as a team building and leadership consultant. What a god-bothering hypocritical fat fluffybunny. I'd be astonished if he could recruit now that the show has aired.

I get the impression that he's symptomatic of the pathway to the NFL: it's all about you and your highlight reel.
