Love the music, and the characters, and their stories. Then again, I am a huge David Simon and Ed Burns fan (Homicide, The Corner, The Wire, Generation Kill, and now Treme)

Ed Burns isn't part of Treme's production. I find the characters and their stories decidedly uninteresting. The acting is good but I think the show is a pretentious, indulgent mess that verges on being preachy.
Watch Justified and Treme in the meantime. They take up two of the spots of my top 4 shows currently airing (along with Community and Parks and Recreation).

Or do yourself a huge favor, and watch all five seasons of Friday Night Lights if you haven't seen it. Or Arrested Development. Or The Wire. Or Firefly. Or Battlestar Galactica. Etc etc.
Justified, is that with Timothy Olophant? (sp) if so, will seek it out as I rate hiim as an actor.

Did anybody else see the season premiere of South Park, episode titled "The Human Cent-i-Pad"?

Really grim .. and hilarious. Although I reckon there also might have been some mind control involved, as after viewing the bunch of us ran to youtube to check out the movie trailer for "The Human Centipede" and discovered, to our grisly horror, that South Park really wasn't making a whole lot up!

(You can find that traoler for yourselves, I don't have the stomach this minute to post it here...)
Ok. Watched it. Actually watched it twice in a row, to try identify characters/names/relationships etc as I have never read any of the books. After seeing the first episode, I am considering picking the books up. Kind of torn though, as only watching the show means that everything that happens is a complete surprise to me. As usual, HBO did an amazing job with the production values and design. It was very well done, and looked fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing where it goes.
Update. I grabbed the first book, and was reading the corresponding chapters after each episode aired. The TV adaption is very true to the book story and events, they have been doing a fantastic job. But after three weeks of this, I said screw it, and finished the first book. Great read and (not spoiling anything) I loved where the book went, and I am already halfway into the second book.
Missed the first episode and have only seen the second but am very impressed. Took a wee bit of time to get orientated but this looks like a corker of a series.

Haven't read the books, hate fantasy books so never thought I'd watch this. But my mate loves the books and put it on and I was staying at his place so had to watch it.

I watched the first two episodes and thought it was a pretty good start. However, I would most likely have been lost in a number of places if not for my friend providing commentary - it wasn't too easy to follow on it's own merits.

Have watched up to episode 5 in two sittings - excellent stuff. Some great casting, in particular the imp - I think he's doing a great job. Nice mix of violence, boobs and general backstabbing mayhem!

Grab it on a Monday - watch it on a Tuesday, while the wife watches Greys and the other medical show with all attractive medical staff, doing dramatically emotional, yet ultimately shallow activities whilst listening to Snow patrol and other assorted white noise.

Torrenting TV... priceless.

I can't thank you enough for introducing me to these books last year. Even though I cursed you to Kingdom come for not telling me the series was in no way finished.
Loving the TV series. An unexpected pleasure last night: I started watching the latest episode and realised I'd missed one (the one in your quote) so back to back viewing it was with no ad breaks. The latest instalment's scenes with Daenarys, Kal Drogo and Viserys were classic Martin mayhem. Awesome.

So I started watching Game of Thrones. It looks kind of amazing in HD but also very, very plain and un-"cinematographic". Like the most straight forward TV but with the best picture quality. It's an odd combination of weird, familiar, and epic. Some close ups of stubble were like looking into a mirror - very lifelike.

A wolf just ripped a guys throat out. That was pretty awesome. Think I might binge on it this weekend.

Just saw episode 5 and its starting to get very complex. There are just so many characters and subplots that you almost need a reference manual to keep track.

Will definately have to buy the books after the series ends.

Agreed, it is very complex. At the end of each episode I have to phone my mate who has read the book to ask questions - although TBF I probably understand who most of the characters are now.
