Since when has Santner been so useless against short pitched bowling?

He won't have much fun against the Saffers if he doesn't sort that out.

LOL what? The Basin consistently gets the highest crowds of any ground in New Zealand to test matches. Besides the Basin already has been shunted down the order (missing out on an England test, for example) but that has nothing to do with crowds. You can say middle of January all you want but there was a severe weather warning for Wellington this morning.

Southee gets a lot of edges - although Sir Paddles also got plenty of edges, he got a lot of LBWs and bowleds.

Didn't Sir Paddles get asked what his secret was once, and he responded with something like "bowl the ball at the stumps, as fast as I can". He wasn't fucking around trying for caught-behinds.

TBH. This sounds like complete crap, and may be a quote misappropriated from someone else, like Waqar.

Because Hadlee was a medium fast swing bowler, of course he was trying to get caught behinds.

Sir Paddles wanted wickets any way (legally and fairly) he could get them. That quote isn't his, but he did practise to be as close to the stumps as possible in his delivery stride so he could get more LBWs and bowleds by being straighter and more along the pitch.

He wasn't just a swing bowler as he could also seam it both ways, and when he bent his back, was also able to bounce Joel Garner (6'8" ...).

On the actual cricket, NZ are now 539 all out, Santner last man out for 73.

Southee is obviously not the sharpest tool int he box and can't throw straight let alone bowl it seems so no surprise he is poor but it is disappointing that Boult can not figure out the top of off stump corridor of doubt. He has either been on leg and middle or to far outside off. Does his run of injuries mean he doesn't practice anymore so lacks accuracy?.

Bowling coach must be weak or as simple as the two of them

What a load of shit baron. Despite how they've done so far in this test the bangies are hardly a drawcard for big crowds and the nation's weather hasn't helped either. Your Bay area cricket grounds will never compete.

Well the poor old Banger opener looks like he's done a bit of damage. Disc?

The way he collapsed reminds me of my tribulations with discs and sciatic nerves.

It is a test match, and there were probably couple of hundred in the ground.. on a Sunday... in mid January.

    It is just pathetic.

But you are right about the weather, Wellington has shit weather.

Last I heard it does rain in other parts of the country as well but, with all due respect to bangladesh, get a decent team and decent atmosphere at the ground and I'd challenge anywhere else in NZ to match it.

This does of course rely on quite a few stars aligning but again, calling for the basin to be bypassed is utter madness

There were shitloads there last year for the Aussies, a sellout. It's Bangles and this weather - who is surprised? If anything, a good incentive to play one in Maunganui, Whangarei or even farking Raglan FFS

    @nzzp

Well exactly. Who would have predicted the bangies would do as well as they have? Cricket anywhere in the world can be a lottery but moreso at the basin I'll ruefully admit.

Christ man, don't just change your mind like that. This is the Fern - home of US Politics, climate change and Mark Hammett threads that just won't die.

Pretty uncomfortable nights sleep for the Bangles I'd say. Effectively 4 down with the injury and another batsmen playing injured, if they get knocked over quickly in the morning then we'll back ourselves to get 200 - 250 in a couple of sessions on what is a batsmens paradise. And shit if they managed to lose after their first innings efforts and Shakib's double that'd be pretty soul destroying stuff.

Probably have to be on a concrete wicket at Raglan.

"There have been some records for Bangladesh in this match, but here's one they might not want to think about. If they lose this match, it will be the highest first innings total to lead to a loss. This would break a record going back to 1894, where Australia made a first innings total of 586 against England at the SCG, but lost by 10 runs."

    Comon lads!

Free admission at the basin. Clearly they read @Baron-Silas-Greenbacks harsh words and are fighting back!
