AB DeVilliers is not bothering to play us in the test serries because he can't be arsed. He is alas available for the ODI's -

Wow - they don't even sugar-coat it do they?
"Hmmm... tests against New Zealand? Nah, I'll pass."

Now that he's ruled himself out of the English tests too, you guys are looking a bit silly.

Well... obviously he's reading the Fern, and is just doing that to be a fluffybunny.

Smith also has the advantage of not having to face his own bowling attack( same can be said with Kohli)

Pains me to say it but you need to include Davy dumb dumb in the list of current best batsmen.

Australia also never play Bangladesh/Zimbabwe. Having said that a lot of Australian batsmen pig out at home but can never replicate that form away. Smith I think still has a good away average but also takes full advantage of home conditions.

Not much love for the Jaapies in that list. ABdV, Amla and even de Kock all averaging 50+. As are Mominal, Younis Khan and Voges (who's averaging more than anyone and is perhaps an indicator that Steve Smith's average might have been a bit inflated by opposition/flat wickets/etc).

The article is talking about the best batsmen across all formats. Mominal, Younis and Voges are pretty ineffective in T20s and ODIs. Amla is a good case, but has been in a form slump the last two years. de Kock's stats are very impressive, especially given he's a keeper, but it's early days in his test career at the moment (16 matches).

If you are looking at just one format then the argument changes and suddenly guys like Guppy come into the equation in the shorter forms, and Younis in tests.

The Bangles batting is severely depleted for the 2nd test. No Mushfiqur, Kayes and Mominul.

Kane won the toss and we'll bowl. The same NZ team.

A good chance to see how their weakened batting lineup will cope, we won the toss (wow) and are bowling first.

You know what, if i was Kane Williamson, i would be fucking pissed. You win the toss, look at the deck, decide to have a bowl, and chuck the cherry to your two most experienced, highly regarded bowlers, bowling at a weakened lineup

And they proceed to get carted for 4.5 an over. Yes they pick up 2 wickets, but that should be par for the first session of a test.

    58/2 at drinks.

Only following on Cricinfo, while NZ will be relatively happy with that score after putting the Bangles in, there seems to be a lot of balls going to the boundary. Cut those out and it'll create even more pressure on their inexperienced batting lineup.

Wait till SA get here, even without ABdv it won't be pretty.
Yup 13 boundaries in 16 overs is shitter then shit. The Bangles love to attack. Keep it tight with 'accurate' bowling then watch as they get themselves out.
No pressure being exerted at all, surely they discussed this before the toss was made?

Have we given any indication this summer that we can bowl to a plan. Is there a plan? Who is the bowling coach?

Following on from the "best batsmen" bit below, did you see the India v England ODI last night? Run fest.

India scored 381 on the back of a couple of old-timers. Good old Yuvraj Singh whacked 150 off 127, and reliable old MS Dhoni 134 off 122, a 256-run partnership off 229 balls. In replay England made it to 366, with Eion Morgan scoring a hundred.

Apologies, posting at work and my mind wasn't fully on the job.
Should have said NZ will be happy with the two wickets... obviously leaking too many runs re my reference to too many boundary balls.

Flying along after drinks, these two have put on 68 runs at a run a ball.
    Not good.

Looks as tho our bowling attack and coach spend as much time working out a plan as Kyrgios does practicing his backhand

CdG seems to be proving that his 6 for on debut was a fluke.

Time for some spin to stem the bleeding me thinks.

@Virgil with wickets in hand I think you double the score after 35 overs these days.

Not looking forward to the batting powerplay!

I was just looking at CdG's record. It's obviously skewed by the 6-for, but, this innings aside, while he doesn't take wickets, he seems to be able to hold down an end, that's handy enough for the 4th seamer.

What he needs to do is start scoring runs. There isn't a place in the side for am economical 4th seamer who isn't also averaging 35+ with the bat.

They just need to keep wickets in hand so they can launch at the last 10 overs or so
