Have watched up to episode 5 in two sittings - excellent stuff. Some great casting, in particular the imp - I think he's doing a great job. Nice mix of violence, boobs and general backstabbing mayhem!

Grab it on a Monday - watch it on a Tuesday, while the wife watches Greys and the other medical show with all attractive medical staff, doing dramatically emotional, yet ultimately shallow activities whilst listening to Snow patrol and other assorted white noise.<br />

Torrenting TV... priceless.
I watched episode 5 last night.... bloody awesome.<br />
daggers thorugh eyes, horse being beheaded by a huge guy with massive sword and a seriously bad tantrum, throats getting slit, nice wee battle scene, 2 major characters going at each with swords, a joust, a few sex scenes and soem seriously good acting in some seriously disturbing scenes.<br />
<br />
Not to mention the breastfeeding 8 year old.....
<br />
<br />
I can't thank you enough for introducing me to these books last year. Even though I cursed you to Kingdom come for not telling me the series was in no way finished.<br />
<br />
Loving the TV series. An unexpected pleasure last night: I started watching the latest episode and realised I'd missed one (the one in your quote) so back to back viewing it was with no ad breaks. The latest instalment's scenes with Daenarys, Kal Drogo and Viserys were classic Martin mayhem. Awesome.

So I started watching Game of Thrones. It looks kind of amazing in HD but also very, very plain and un-"cinematographic". Like the most straight forward TV but with the best picture quality. It's an odd combination of weird, familiar, and epic. Some close ups of stubble were like looking into a mirror - very lifelike.<br />
<br />
A wolf just ripped a guys throat out. That was pretty awesome. Think I might binge on it this weekend.

Just saw episode 5 and its starting to get very complex. There are just so many characters and subplots that you almost need a reference manual to keep track.<br />
<br />
Will definately have to buy the books after the series ends.

Agreed, it is very complex. At the end of each episode I have to phone my mate who has read the book to ask questions - although TBF I probably understand who most of the characters are now.

Loving this show, might even eclipse Rome for my all time favorite HBO show. They have done a good job I think setting up the characters with such limited time to do so.<br />
Throat/tongue scene - a few NZ politicians need that done to them...

I'm assuming you haven't seen The Wire? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /><br />
<br />
Mild spoiler below (for those waiting for its NZ airing):<br />
<br />
I really like it although some parts really frustrate me, some of the characterisation seems a bit odd at times. Is the hold of the Wall and being a Nightstalker really so great that Snow wouldn't go join Rob on the march South? It just annoys me.<br />
<br />
Also, I find it interesting the primitive people are 'brown' of skin. Bloody typical <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />.<br />
<br />
I have a mate who loves the books and I always wind him up with how derivative they are and he launches into these long defences - then I read an article with the author where he acknowledges that he's liberally swiped from history as the basis of his stories.

Because he would have his head cut off for desertion. And it would probably have to be Robb who did it. (Think back to Ned in the first episode).<br />

The Dothraki are olive skinned and are conveyed as primitive I guess. But then they are a nomadic people living in a hot part of the world where there isn't the same proximity to other civilizations as there is in the seven kingdoms (Westeros), so science/culture advancement is probably going to be slower.<br />
<br />
The Summer Islanders which you don't really meet until the fourth book are black, and aren't portayed as being primitive, quite the opposite.

I didn't realise the guy in the first scene was a Nightstalker (is that what they're called?), I just thought he was a general guard. At any rate his uncle is (was) always wandering back and forward from the Wall - Snow could go kill some Lanissters and then return to his duties!<br />
<br />
Another thing that annoyed me was the 'dance' teacher not picking up one of the swords when he had the chance. Frustrating.<br />
<br />
Still a wicked series though - maybe a bit too much penis though.

You should read the books, they're fantastic. The fifth installment is out next month so you could slide straight into it. (As opposed to having to wait six years as some have had to!).<br />
<br />
And yes, it seems there has been a fair share of full frontal male nudity in the last three episodes!<br />
<br />
ps they're called the Nights Watch. And they're sworn to protect the realm but not to interfere in its affairs. Benjen Stark having business in Winterfell when the King was there is probably not quite of the scale of taking sides and joining the war!<br />
<br />
The guy who had his head lopped off by Ned Starks greatsword in the first episode was a ranger in the Nightswatch. The punishment for desertion is death.

Ah, cheers. I hate fantasy books. But I might read this series equivalent book(s) at the end of the series.

watched season one, was decent, but no where near the detail, and epicness of Rome.<br />
Does the wire get better post season one?

:shock: Blasphemous! If I ever get over the shock of someone suggesting that Rome has more epicness and detail than the Wire I'll let you know.

I've not sat down to watch the Wire - am waiting on borrowing the DVD sets off my brother.<br />
<br />
I can however say that Deadwood was pretty high up on my list of high quality HBO programming. Like eating a kobe steak dinner compared to most other dramas.<br />

Do you think this will actually get picked up by any of the NZ channels? I can't see it fitting any of TVNZ's brackets - and the AO rating/scenes will surely get it dumped into an 11:30pm or later slot.<br />
<br />
Deadwood never made it here - nor did the Wire. Did Rome?
