    I count amongst my mates:
Choc, hole, snatch, minge, Fatboy, Red, soulpole, wooly, cas(anova). This kind of naming convention must continue.

    My friend Dogbonker might disagree...

Met a bloke who was introduced to all and sundry as 'Isme'. It took a while to realise that was actually a nickname but the penny dropped when it turned out his surname was 'Cockin'

Way back one of my best friends at uni phoned my house to invite me to her 21st. She got my mum & went "Hi, is...um" then it dawned on her she didn't know my actual name & was going to have to say "is Butt-Punch there?" to my mum...

I've tended to find NZ nicknamers - especially small town ones, are really basic, but pretty vicious. Aussies seem to put a lot more genuine thought into there's.

@gollum re the Aussies, sometimes. There is also a huge number of blokes who have their last name shortened and ended in "-o" or "-ie"

    Robbo
    Smithie.

Can't say I've noticed a dying out of nicknames myself, think this guy might just not have any close friends.

    My close mates:

José, Jizzy, G-train, Horse, Gumbo, Gooch, Peach, Big-Mac, Shoogs, Birdman

You're dying for someone to ask aren't you?

    Go on then. 'Butt-punch'. Why?

My favourites are the ones that people admit they don't like, which is a fatal decision because they stick. Ones like Bubbles and Daisy...

    It's the attempt that counts.

Yeah that. My favourite was "Mike" always becomes "Mick", which takes on a whole new meaning for Kiwis. Had a mate who would lose his shit on that all the time.

My brother is Sax. So named after he got Shelfered in a game and didn't find out until the moment he hit the sea after jumping off the wharf on the way home.

That has occasionally resulted in me being Little Sax. Not cool.

    A few mates

Ronaldo - due to an experience he had on Brighton beach
Sergei - after the polevalulter, his alternative name was dongle
Colonel - last name Keen, (it's a mustard reference)
Cuddly - because he was a fluffybunny and an Aussie
    Cuntly - because he (I) wasn't
gimp - we convinced a young lady he was a German dungeon fetishist, ( which may have been true or not)
Bruce - because he was a Kiwi and his name was Brian

    Many more
