A sweet circular logic here, the late-great master Alex Chilton covering Teenage Fanclub's "Alcoholiday." (Alex Chilton/Big Star being their heroes, and this is one of the great Alex Chilton songs that Alex Chilton never wrote.) Pretty much a faithful straight-ahead version of the original. Not sure of the source, sounds live, but excellent audio quality.

Stranger is the Fannies own radically different rockin' version of the same song, recorded for the Peel Sessions.

Fabulous. But sadly, the great first verse:
Listen ever get a feeling when you're taken by the hand
And led a course you can't command
Went to bed but I'm not ready
Baby I've been fucked already
The lyric has been changed to "used," probably for benefit of not offending the Beeb audience.

A surprising improvement on the original, however, the Peel Sessions version Blake changes that 2nd verse to an all-new:
Listen ever get the feeling that you've had too much to drink
Stretch your heart strings to the brink
I've been drunk but I'm not stupid
I don't want to play with cupid
Genius.

The timeless original, from Bandwagonesque, for anybody so inclined...
The post above mentioning TEENAGE FANCLUB made me remember this tune, a fave from my flatting days of the mid-90's
Have been watching Millennium recently. It has some really nice sequences, including one set to this gem by Patti Smith:
I've been listening to Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, because the sax player, Clarence Clemons, died after a stroke the other day.

Surely his high point was getting the mention from Bruce at the start of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town?

Some mellow blue-eyed soul. I saw this girl busking years ago when she was a teenager. Beautiful sultry voice. I'm hearing My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth (minus the cyclone, feedback, and buried vocals, but oh, it's there.). There's an official video version, but sadly it's a single edit cut to artsy dance grant video; and there's a cool raw handheld video of the threesome performing the song live under a bridge to nobody in particular (a puzzled kid shows up); but being (ahem) a purist, I'll go with this (unofficial) version that a fanbot posted 'cos it's the original-length album version.
That Live DVD was excellent and showed how talented Winehouse was. Even then I suspect she was trolleyed at times during it

So as is tradition in the MN5 household a mate of mine pops round for a fry up. Sangas, bacon, hash browns, beans. THe whole works. Anyway hes busy cooking as I come downstairs, he's having issues

"Fark dude you're smoking the place out !" I say. Naturally once it clears I find myself drawn to this smooth tune on youtube and we pump it up and act as Gangster as a couple of white boys can.....
Strangely I was never a huge fan of Gza even though he was probably the cleanest on the mic of all the clan.

I was a Ghostface and Meth fan. Raekwon and ODB to a lesser extent. Always thought Rza was good with words but his flow is not my thing, trying to fit too many words in.

Inspectah Deck was average. And then the part timers, in their thousands, were often crap.

Should be awesome though.

Yeah I'm an ODB fanboy for sure. I love Liquid swords and Beneath the Surface - fav Method man album was blackout with Redman. Ghostface is very sharp too - he was amazing in his Akld gig earlier this year (or late last year). The Wu were all about chemistry and the fact they were fresh and had good skills. Most have at least one solo album of note but a lot of the more recent material has been average.

The RZA has been the most successful outside of rap - acting and writing the score for several movies - even got some material on Kill Bill.

36 Chambers is frequently revisited in our house!
