John Wick is fucking great. Wall to wall mooks getting shot in the face.

The freeway scene in Reloaded is fucking ace, and i watch it over and over. I have seen Revolutions maybe twice.

m4l, John Wick was one of those surprise movies that you watch without any advance hype or anything and you just sit there and go "holly shit how good is this!".

I've watched a few YouTube videos on how Keanu trained for both movies in Krav Maga, martial art, and he spent an extraordinary amount of time and effort on weapons training so that everything he did with the weapons he handles in the movies comes across as completely natural and believable.

He was always an actor which I enjoyed in some of his movies, Speed, Matrix, etc but couldn't stand in others. But watching John Wick and then the YouTube videos gave me a much greater respect and admiration for someone who gets so completely immersed in his character and dedicates so much time and effort into his craft.

All due respect to Keanu for his complete dedication to his art.

As an aside, I'm a bit of a gun buff and really enjoy reading and watching anything with "cool" guns and/or military stuff. For those of you who haven't seen this, there is a Wiki site which gives all the details about the weapons used in pretty much any movie or even PC/Console game.

So if you ever see a weapon or weapons in a movie like 13 Hours or John Wiki and go "wow, cool, what sort of gun is that?" there is a place to go...

A potential waste of hours perusing this site for those interested in such things 😵

    Ghostbusters

Obviously I was strongly opposed to the idea of an all female team, not to mention one that included the Dugong from Gilmore Girls. The horrendous trailer seemed to confirm that. But, the film was free on Foxtel and I decided to watch it with an open mind and put aside my deeply ingrained misogynistic prejudices. It had a decent cast, director and budget so I thought it should at least be entertaining.

Well fark me. It was even worse than I could have imagined. What an absolute abortion of a film. The original Ghostbusters was essentially a horror film with subtle, clever humour. This shit had pathetic, corny jokes throughout the entire film. Even queefe jokes ffs. Chris Hemsworth was supposed to be awesome comic relief, but all he did was play some kind of fucking retard. Hilarious. I watched maybe 60% and had to stop. I doubt I'll watch the rest.

Let me make this clear. This film isn't shit because of the all-female cast. It's shit because it is unfunny and terribly made. The "jokes" are appallingly bad. What makes it even more shit is that it's a reboot of an absolute classic and a brand that has been absolutely trashed.

If I have to say anything positive about it, I would mention that I think Leslie Jones is a genuine talent. I should check out some of her SNL stuff.

What are you smoking?? Reloaded is a confusing plotline with some cool special effects. I'll give you the highway scene, but otherwise it's dire.

The best scene in the 2 sequels combined in the battle scene in revolutions when the sentinels breach zion. That's fucking awesome.

@MajorRage sorry, possibly poorly worded. I watch the freeway scene over and over, the rest? not so much.

Actually, the whole bit from Monica pashing up Neo to him pulling them off the truck is pretty cool. Smashing those dudes in the head with medieval weapons, then guns.

I seem to remember that Sentinel battle being very cool, but as i said, I've barely watched it.

Is this superlative score based on the cinematography, the plot, the writing. Or is it something more aesthetic?

Through a well written and well paced plot along with effective use of cgi the movie manages to convey the idea that regardless of modern technology once we enter the water we are no longer at the top of the food chain and essentially at the mercy of Mother Nature once again.

Also , she has a smoking rack and sharks are awesome.

OK, finally watched Rogue One and I'm pleased I waited. I felt no sense of suspense or wonderment. Just seemed all samey. Best bit was Darth fucking people up, but then that's always the best bit.

    alt text

Just watched it tonight. Very underwhelming. So many characters and planets and constant action scenes that everything got jumbled and I got bored. My other biggest gripe: everybody fucking dies. That sucks.

I liked the Jyn character, but that was possibly because she was the only one who got any backstory or character development. I liked the blind martial arts guy, and his grumpy sidekick, and the snarky droid who arguably had the best lines. Mexican dude had potential, but he was a sketch at most. I think my favourite bits were the cameos of some Star Wars faces like Darth who was awesome, Red Leader, Leia's adopted dad, Darth's general.

But this movie had next to no heart. I just didn't connect with any of the characters enough to really care. And then they all karked it, and it was like, well, fuck you, director.

Yep. Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon were good. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig were bloody awful - so bland and unfunny. The story was shit, meandering from one event to the next with seemingly no connection, and the special effects were a bit lame. Chris Hemsworth was entirely wasted. In the original, Janine was a totally quirky and rather endearing nerd. But Chris' character is just an utter idiot stealing oxygen. It's not a patch on the original which was clever and witty and actually had a plot.

    1984

A classic movie of the classic book.

Slow, dark, gritty a lot, and kind of boring in places. But its 33 years old and the message is still the same, and kind of apt in this age of "fake news" accusations or other shite.

Interestingly, the end credits state it was shot in and around London in April-June of 1984 - the time at which Orwell actually set the book.

    Beauty and the Beast

Let's get this out of the way: as far as musical score goes, this one is a contender, and not just because of its Disney roots. I'm told they stayed reasonably faithful to the original songs, and the presentation is delightful.

Emma Watson is feisty hot. The dude from Downton as the Beast is also quite good, along with the CGI required to manage all that.

Luke Evans is excellent as an arrogant Gaston, and Josh Gad as Le Fou nearly steals the show. Perfect combination there, and had the adults laughing at a bit of the camp humour.

Supporting roles are excellent, CGI again is great.

Couple of moments that could have been thrown aside like the washing machine/learn to read piece, which might have saved a bit of time.

Otherwise: Great music, casting, CGI, cinematography. All round bloody good film.

@taniwharugby I expect Wonder Woman to be pretty good and then the Justice League to retreat back to Snyder levels ... that trailer seems to suggest I'm going to be correct.

Also, the CGI on Cyborg looks completely unrealistic.

@jegga That looks batshit crazy. It could turn out awesome ... or not.
