Binge watched Season 1 of Taboo. It got better and better as it went along, loved the nasty double-triple crossing. Not enough sex and/or nudity. The chemist character was delightful, and it's amazing the range of responses a grunt can cover.

I didn't particularly love when Winter got gutted, or when Silver hurled herself into the Thames. Weak plot twists. And Helga eating a large helping of musket balls. Like Jesus, how about we quickly shed most of the key female characters in a hurry.

The demise of the American doctor was rather Silence of the Lambs-esque.

@Crucial I watched The Replacement, thought the ending seemed rushed, with a couple of things I am not entirely clear on...but otherwise was pretty good.

Yeah, considering the slow burn of Ep 1 the wrap up was rushed. Some big plot devices needed as well.
Aside from that it was an interesting watch and well acted.

Patriot is pretty good so far, a good laugh.

    You still watching this?

I've watched about 5 eps, some really funny shit, but is a bit average, although I do like it for some reason.

In ep 5, thought the elevator scene was brilliant (with Bobby from SOA and the Brazilian brothers)

Just saw on YouTube that Ed China has left Wheeler Dealers , that's a shame . He was great in the show but he said he couldn't fit in with Discoverys vision for the show

@jegga I love that show ... shame about Ed China leaving, hopefully he can now get a haircut. Did prefer the show when it was UK based though - was a bit more about blokes in sheds whereas now it's in the US, it feels a bit more like a bland version of the US equivalents (fast n loud, misfit garage etc).

Just watched the first 2 new Dave Chapelle specials on netflix.

Not as bombastic as he once was but still very very funny.

@MajorRage Fast n Loud jumped the shark for me when they started coming up with the contrived deadlines . Have you checked out Dirt every day and Roadkill on YouTube? I watch them more than the stuff on Turbo now . Also Project Binky, those guys are going to be building that thing for a loooooong time.

if James May can finally get a haircut Ed China had no excuse. He looks like he gets it styled by a blind lesbian.

@jegga yeah, I don't get much tv time these days so rarely get to look at youtube shows. I've seen the plethora of the shows on discovery - I do like Richard Rawlings take, but the more that series went on, the more it becamse about him and money / contacts etc as opposed to cars.

@MajorRage his mechanic Aaron has left along with his spray painter so I guess the next series is going to be quite different.

If you like fast n loud you'll probably enjoy Roadkill .

@antipodean Have just watched "Making a Murderer" this week. I just found your post and I have not read any other posts on this series.

Fantastic doco. The thesis of the filmmakers is quite chilling with the strong overtones of police and prosecutorial misconduct: evidence planting / police revenge / harassment and, especially, the coerced confession of Brendan Dassey (possibly as opposed to establishing the truth). They are doing a second series soon focussing more on Dassey.

Overall I feel massively for Dassey and to a lesser extent for Avery (I'm on the fence with his guilt). There seems to be a significant element of circling the wagons from Manitowoc County law enforcement. Procedurally the police actions appeared abhorrent.

That being said, I need to do some other reading on it because it is undoubtedly biased towards Steven Avery's side of the story.

The other issue hanging over it for me (especially given my US political "awakening" in the last 12 months) is the probability of latent political bias. The filmmakers are two New York women (they met at Columbia film school) taking an angle on a rural Midwestern police force and district attorney's office. So you have this almost certain liberal / libertarian / anti-authoritarian slant on the rural / redneck male authority figure. You couldn't get more Clinton vs. Trump.

@Tregaskis I watched a doco on Discovery or Nat GEo a while back which pulled apart the series, and while I agree there was a lot of shit that doesn't add up, it was certainly made to give the conspiracy angle.

Didn't clear a lot up, but presented some facts that the TV show didn't.

Not a series, but did anybody see the doco on Rio Ferdinand the other night? I'm not a football fan and didn't really know anything about him apart from him being talented, rich and famous. This doco was about how he's trying to cope with his wife dying and leaving him with 3 little kids who are all struggling to cope themselves. Heartbreaking.

Binge watched the entire season of Big Little Lies. Really great cast - Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Alexander Skarsgard, Adam Scott among others. Kind of like a Desperate Housewives meets Twin Peaks, complete with murder mystery and a small, rich town with a shitload of secrets and veneers hiding all sorts of shenanigans.

Bonus - a surprising amount of nudity including tits/sex/self love from Nicole K who really is in great shape.

I struggle to believe that titless bag of bones didn't use a body double but for research purposes I may check it out.
