@Nepia I'm keen to have a look at the McCaw documentary, most people I have spoken to that have seen it, said it was better than expected, guess this depends on where you set your bar...
Was speaking to someone on the weekend who has had a few beers and chats with him, and said he was a good bloke, different to the persona we see and hear (and obviously I know a couple of ferners on here who have met him say different to that as well) so I guess like anything there are people you can connect with and those you cant.

Plus they're in the public eye so can't be in top form all the time. Reminds me of my mate telling me a story of when he was in the Koru lounge at 6am and some bloke accosted Murray Mexted on the couch opposite him to vent his frustrations at a couple of ommissions in the AB squad cos, you know, ex All Blacks love talking rugby with any old random 24/7.

I haven't seen Chasing Great either and have had no real urge to watch it. The criticism I've read is that they missed the opportunity to show more "behind the scenes" stuff. That would be of interest to me because you only see snippets on various websites, TV shows. Those that have seen it may have a different opinion.

I quite enjoyed it, didn't pay to watch it though. Still got a bit dusty watching Richie win the cups. I reckon Weight of a Nation was more gripping but you get some insight into the mind of the man

If you're a rugby nut and love the ABs then Richie's movie is worth a watch. I thought they would focus more on Richie behind the scenes and what he did to achieve greatness I.E. his mental strength, drive etc but quite a bit of the movie is about the WCs.

When his mate was talking about him at college, and said there were people that picked on him and said "you'll never amount to anything" - name a shame please!

Watched two very very different movies this week:
Hacksaw Ridge: Really good. Amazing story and Mel did a great job with a very limited budget. Cast was great too, especially Vince Vaughn. Even Sam Worthington managed to appear less wooden that usual. The incredible thing is that real life events were cut out because they were just too unbelievable for the screen.
Sausage Factory: Had zero expectations and was just looking for mindless entertainment after working too much. It was bloody hilarious. You always wonder with a film like this whether it can sustain itself for the full length, but the gags just kept on coming. There's always something cool and rebellious about something that looks like a kids cartoon being absolutely farking filthy. Great stuff.

It may not appeal to anyone other than NZ rugby fans because Richie is single minded, relentless, down to earth and humble. Not nearly as interesting as a tortured genius like John Daly or Andre Agassi for example
Just saw an ESPN doco about Daly. Happy Gilmour combined with Homer Simpson, Kenny Powers and Nicholas Cage's character from Leaving Las Vegas.
