    If you like history then the History Extra Podcast is good. It focuses on one or two topics per episode and is usually a chat with a historian who's written a book about the topic.

    Good for finding out new info from a broad range of topics.

    One warning is that the presenters are pretty dry so if you like Carlin's style be warned it's quite different.

    HistoryExtra podcast | Listen now to history podcasts

    If you like movies then Empire Magazine podcast is good.

    BTW, what's your favourite Sam Hyde bit?

    Have I admitted to enjoying his stuff or was that a guess?

    I understand why people either love or hate 'world peace' but he shouldn't have attracted so much hatred. Particularly disappointing were the other comics that campaigned to get it cancelled.

    Whats good? I enjoy his rants. Kickstarter TV has some good moments. Thats where he breaks down various kickstarter projects that are based on entitlement or delusions of grandeur (such as the feminist cycle trip to the middle east that would ultimately end with a spoken word performance to educate people about her experiences)

    The MDE skit Moms is brutal. I can understand why most people would hate it though

    His standup (delivered terribly) is about getting a pearl clutching reaction. The cunty jokes are only part of the bit.. the audience reaction is just as important

    Even 'Jews Rock' I find funny. Making fun of the people who truely believe he's a racist, who then must bow before his jewish masters at Adult Swim

    @Duluth Just a guess.

    World Peace wasn't my thing, but some of his stuff cracks me up. I loved KSTV.

    I think my favourite bit (more to think about than to laugh at immediately) is when he takes fantasies of morally justified violence and takes them to a ludicrous extreme with ... Lena Dunham. e.g. "If I was put in a self-defence situation by Lena Dunham where I had to defend my life, and the lives of family, from her, I would ..." and goes on to describe beating her in absurdly graphic detail.

    Yeah, that was really annoying. Especially all the lame dipshits who tried to get more cred by taking potshots at him. You just know that they've posted the "love that memory/cheap lambrusco wine" memes a million times as well.

    About This Show

    On February 15, 2014, fitness guru Richard Simmons disappeared. He stopped teaching his regular exercise class at Slimmons, cut off his closest friends, and removed himself from the public eye after decades as one of the most accessible celebrities in the world. Nobody has heard from him — and no one knows why he left. Filmmaker Dan Taberski was a Slimmons regular and a friend of Richard’s. Missing Richard Simmons is Dan’s search for Richard — and the deeper he digs, the stranger it gets.

    I listened to my first Joe Rogan podcast as he was interviewing the director Kevin Smith.

    Fuck me it was terrible, they were just two stoners babbling bullshit for 3 hours.

    @Nepia

    Rogan is unlistenable if he has a fellow stoner on. He'll talk for hours about how monkeys came down from the trees and evolved into man after they discovered lsd

    The long format only works if the guest is interesting and Rogan respects their view and lets them speak. So about 1 in every 20 episodes

    That one sucked for a variety of reasons, the ones with Duncan Trussle and Ari Shaffir tend to be the same if not worse. The dinosaur guy is pretty tedious .

    The one Siam mentioned was good, in part way through the one with Flores talking about coyotes , it's actually pretty interesting . The best so far I reckon is probably the one with Jordan Peterson.

    Did anyone check out the radio lab one I mentioned?

    @Nepia yeah, you make a good point. His Lance Armstrong one was great I thought. but then I've listened to a few others, and the MMA ones are good, but any of the others are pretty dull.

    I got 10 minutes into one with a pro marijuana guy and turned it off. I don't like stoner stuff at all - they are right up there with anti-vaccers, vegetarians and born-agains for me.

    So that is the first Rogan I've listened to - I thought that Smith would be a good one as I listen to a bunch of his podcasts and like his speaking shows he does.

    But as @Duluth notes pairing two stoners together makes it pretty unlistenable. There were hints of a good discussion there but it would always get hijacked by the rambling.

    His stoner politics are all over the show (going from the sample size of one podcast), in favour of universal income, Hillary bad cos she lies, Trump not as bad even though he lies (did I just do the Candyman version of calling Frank to this thread 😉 ), no president, all his food thoughts etc.

    He's actually a really good speaker too so if the subjects are good he should be all good. @MajorRage I'll definitely give the Armstrong one a listen.

    I just have to block out thoughts of how annoying he was on Fear Factor.

    On the subject of Smith, if you guys want some light listening about pop culture stuff (movies, comics, tv) then Fatman on Batman is great - he does them with a writer called Mark Bernardin who is really on to it.

    @Nepia the Armstrong one is very good. I'm not sure if he's in favour of universal income or he thinks it's inevitable, he talks about Ai a lot and its effect on the job market.

    @jegga He was pretty in favour of it on the Smith podcast - he brought it up a few times.

    Yeah on one of the ones with Duncan Trussle they spent about 20 minutes agreeing with each other about not having to worry about money would make people more creative .
    Sure it will.
    There was a more interesting part of that one though talking about PTSD and how a doctor in the states is using MDMA to treat it and is paying for it with crowd funding.

    The Scott Addams one was ok in parts,I think the guy is just stuck in a rut of confirmation bias about how everything Trump does proves him right.
