@MN5 the end was the best bit (as in the words coming up, not the ending of the movie)

I thought for one horrific moment you meant Star Wars.

    Sorry, as you were

@Kirwan always dangerous touching those cult classics, sometimes better off calling them something else and let it go from there I reckon.

Having the director from Arrival is a good start, perfect for this sort of movie.

okay, so, i watched the new Independence Day last night. I'm really glad i did. Because now i have a reminder of just how bad a movie could be.

How is it that 20 years on, the effects look even worse than the first?

It's just so fucking bad i found myself searching IMDB just to make sure i wasn't watching The Asylum's cheap as shit knock-off version. It's completely preposterous, the entire fucking thing. And while the first was hardly an intellectual watch, it at least had heart, and humour. This had nothing. Fucking nothing. And it is so incestuous, it makes the Star Wars prequels look broad in scope. If you were a central character 20 years ago, you, or your offspring is a central character now, and probably married to another one. Fuck. Off.

Worst movie i have seen in ages. Avoid. I can't even say the effects were worth it. Just shit.

Minus 2 ... you know what, it's not even worth the effort to come up with a good rating. Just minus 2 stars.

    Probably better then Prometheus then

Prometheus, while not a classic. Wasn't that bad. Yes it had plot problems, but it looked absolutely amazing.

To be fair I was been sarcastic and trying to antagonise MN5, probably should have somehow slipped the Scottish rugby team into the post..

I'm too busy celebrating a third Scot in the Lions to notice

He reckoned a couple of his biggest clients knew what he was doing and pulled out billions, one died of a heart attack when he was told he had to pay it back .

Yep. Your post made it sound like fact not just some blokes opinion. I'm going to the new one ( free tickets to an advanced screening, how good is that ? ) despite you saying it won't be any good. be sure to check in around this time tomorrow for an in depth review.

    certain

Sorry... Do I need to put 'in my opinion' in front of ever post just for you? Thought that would have been uneccesary in a film review thread about what people thought of movies.. but I guess not.
But it is a fact that I think all the films in the Alien franchise are rubbish except Aliens, which was great.

But I wont talk about it much becuase there is nothing more douche bag than some twat rabbiting on about how he doesnt like a certain movie franchise or genre repeatedly... aye MN5....

Yeah, Ward is an interesting choice damn shame it never happened. The third one that was made wasn't too bad it just pales in comparison to the first two.

Without reading the link i assume it talks about a planet made of wood, inhabitanted by monks?
It was passed on by a few directors including Ward
In the end an unknown (except for making music videos) called David Fincher directed it. Don't think it even had a completed script when he began
Must have been a shit experience because to this day he refuses to acknowledge it's existence.
I thought it wasn't that bad, just a dark and pretty depressing movie.

@Virgil Ward wrote the wooden planet script, then it got rewritten hence the loose ends in it. Checkout the comments for some über nerd going all BSG about the article.
