Totally agree about Horrible Bosses, with that cast they had the potential to do something really great, but apart from the odd bit, it just wasnt that funny.<br />
<br />
Two recently seen, Reel Steel which would have been better without the Hollywood cheese (eg slow motion shots with musical background). And the ending was dumb. Other one was Open Home (nasty slasher flick, a couple goes to open homes, move in, film themselves killing a bunch of people then move on. The couple may or may not be brother and sister, and why they became psychotic serial killers is not actually revealed. Directed by Anna Paquin's brother (she has a bit part, as does her hubby Stephen Moyer).

He's one of my fave actors, but this was not especially awesome.

Seeking Justice; Nick Cage, January Jones, Guy Pearce (who I think is a great actor) <br />
<br />
Storyline; Cages wife (Jones) is brutally beaten and raped, while at the hospital, he is approached by Simon (Pearce) representing an organisation who deal out their own brand of justice, all for a return favour sometime down the track. <br />
<br />
I liked it, thought Cage was quite good in it, not his usual dull slow talking character.

very interesting one called In Time; Justin Timberlake, Cillian Murphy<br />
<br />
Sci-fi Thriller, where time, your time is the only trading commodity.<br />
<br />
When you reach a certain age, you stop aging, are given 51 years credit, when you get to 0, you die. You get paid in time, everything costs you time (1 hour to ride the bus) The rich have plenty, and the poor, live day to day, most often with only hours to spare before they get credited for a days work, and often people drop dead in the streets when they cant trade more with someone.<br />
<br />
Was a decent enough watch, JT & Murphy (as the Timekeeper; aka Cop) are good in their roles too.

You reckon? I thought the end part when the majority of the cowboys and indians are fighting the aliens while the others are in the caves was crap.<br />
<br />
Saw Tinker, Tailor,... a couple of days ago. Really liked it although the start was a tad slow but it built the context of the story and the intrigue very well. An interesting end, be good to hear what others think about what the relationship was between those two. Gary Oldman is excellent.

Just saw Red Dog. I liked it, a bit cheesy maybe and it had a great aussie soundtrack too.

Watched three DVDs over the windy long weekend: The Eagle, Transformers Three, and Senna.<br />
<br />
The Eagle is a pretty good action/chase movie with a lot of similarities to The Centurion (both are set in Roman Brittania, namecheck Hadrian and the Roman Empire before getting to the serious business of legionary battles and long sequences in which the heroes run from the local "barbarians" and consider who really is barbaric). Great performance from Jamie Bell and Channing Tatum is well cast as a brooding young Roman trying to restore his family's lost honour by recovering the golden eagle standard lost by his father north of Hadrian's Wall.<br />
<br />
Senna is just awesome. Two minutes in the missus said, "Is this a documentary? I don't think this is going to be my thing." Swiflty followed to two hours of us both being absolutely captivated. Would recommend it to anyone regardless of whether they have an interest in motorsport.<br />
<br />
Missed the second Transformers, on seeing the third that decision has been justified. If they'd spent 1/1,000th of the budget on the script they may have come up with a movie that was a cool as the visuals and the sound effects.

Hmm, had a blonde moment and re-quoted something I had already quoted!<br />
<br />
So I can't think of a movie but I did watch Bill Hicks - Revelations recently and I'm wondering what all the fuss is about. He was kind of funny, in parts, but not the legend I expected.

I don't reckon Bill Hicks is all that funny either.<br />
<br />
I watched "Friends With Benefits" with the wife over the weekend. The first half is actually pretty funny, the second half decends into the usual rom-com schmaltzy crap. As much as i have tried to dislike Justin Timberlake, i have to admit, the guy is ******* talented, and seems like a top bloke as well. What a *****. Mila Kunis is hot, gets nude, but of course to keep the rating down all you get is ass and side-boob.<br />
<br />
Last weekend i saw "Terrible Bosses" which got a pass mark, but no more. Colin Farrell's character could have had a heap more scenes. I would have smashed the dentists back doors in without a moments hesitation. <br />
<br />
Also "Battle Los Angleles" which seemed like a poor mans "Blackhawk Down" with aliens. I was entertained, but far from a standout.

Bill Hicks is awesome.<br />
<br />
Finally saw Hugo (3D). It was pretty good. Nice touches seeing James Joyce and Django Reinhardt in the train station. It looked beautiful, but somehow I can't help but think that Scorsese was trying too hard, and there seemed to be more internal coincidences than a Star Wars sequel. 7.5/10<br />
<br />
Dangerous Method. The new Cronenberg film, with Michael Fassbender playing Carl Jung, who has an affair with his female patient played by Keira Knightley who looks like a freak, and Sigmund Freud played by Viggo Mortensen with a cigar in his mouth the entire time. Enjoyed it. 7/10<br />
<br />
Shame. New Steve McQueen film (no, not that Steve McQueen), also starring Fassbender as a sex addict who may-or-may-not have had an incestuous affair with his sister in the past. A good film, with some nice surprising funny moments, but overall it's a character study of a person who I didn't particularly like, about a subject matter that is not my cup o' tea, and I'm not sure I need to ever see it again. Can't rate.

I know this is probably pretty childish, but when my wife says she likes an actor, I change the name to imply they are *** (no I am not hating on *** people, and I did say it was childish). For example Michael Fassbender, becomes Michael Backender and Mark Wahlberg = Mark Wallbanger, etc etc. Yes I know it is purile and childish, but it does make me giggle

Watched the new 3 Musketeers, with Orlando Bloom, Milla Jojovich (??)<br />
<br />
Kinda like a James Bond Musketeers, farfetched, but a bit of harmless fun.<br />
<br />
We need to talk about Kevin; Tilda Swinton, John C Reilly<br />
<br />
One of those films whose content isnt one you can say you liked, as it is more a disturbing tale of how a mother deals with the grief and guilt after her son goes on a killing spree at his high school.

That last bit is probably a massive spoiler TR.<br />

Haven't seen the movie but understand that for much of it you know he's done something but not qhat he's done.<br />

This is the synopsis from IMDB; The mother of a teenage boy who went on a high-school killing spree tries to deal with her grief - and feelings of responsibility for her child's actions.<br />
<br />
I expect if you went to a DVD shop for it, the cover would say that too, so if you were surprised at that....I knew what he had done, justnot how, or why.

Note:<br />
<br />
I moved the discussion of Stieg Larsson's Millenium series to the new Nerd stuff and pop culture discussion thread<br />
<br />
http://www.daimenhut...cussion-thread/<br />
<br />
EDIT: reposting some comments from the book thread:<br />
<br />
Hey Nepia, was just moving some discussion off the movie review thread really. Thought that putting it in a discussion thread would give people more freedom to really get into it, rather than worrying about clogging up the reviews thread.<br />
<br />
I moved the "redshirts" stuff to put more interesting Trek on the new thread.<br />
<br />
If you want to discuss books on this thread, go for gold. That's what's it's for. The new thread gives people a place they can get into in-depth/comparative discussion about different aspects of genres of books/movies/tv series/etc or individual works/series. It's also a place you can drop a link or comment about trek/star wars/fantasy/whatever if you don't want to start a new thread.<br />
<br />
EDIT: If you want to start a new thread to talk about Game of Thrones or something then please feel free to do so. If you don't want to start a new thread then the nerd/pop culture thread is there for you.
Fair enough. The only reviews I had seen or read tip toed around what the big event is (particularly Mark Kermode's BBC movie podcast in which WNTTAK was discussed at some length). I haven't followed the film's promotional material and assumed that the event was treated similarly as, my understanding of Kermode's review was that the audience not knowing exactly what it is that Kevin has done was an significant facet of the movie.

Dunno, I watched it, always knew (maybe I assumed, I just dont think I did?) what he did (not in as much detail) as more the how and how the mother ended up where she was, there is a bit more to it.<br />
<br />
If it was to be a surprise, the way they portray him (Kevin) throughout via flashbacks given the movie is centered around his mother trying to get on with her life after the event, they do a very poor way to disguise it!
