Kiwi sphincters were watertight every time ball came near him. Thinking about it Lions were returning from their historic 71 triumph, ABs had some rough years losing to Poms then 76 Bok series, people were shitting themselves. Farrell played the first two test matches a win-and a loss, got the heave. Very-very tight series, 4th test decided by a single-point for the series win.

4th 10-9Laurie Knight scored the winning try in the last minutes of the 4th test at Eden Park. I was in temporary seating in front of the North Stand and we all jumped about so much it collapsed.
Poor old Colin Farrell. Even for Auckland he was pretty hit and miss although for the times he was a counter-attacking fullback. We certainly has some shocking fullbacks after Karam went to league
Main v2 & Fawcett I'm gonna score more off the field than on it in 76 Duncan Robertosn Bevan Wilson seemed like a rugby god after that lot

I don't mind Kayes that much. His cunning-Alinghi joke that @booboo referred to was terrible enough for us to still remember years and years later. Particularly terrible because he was asked a question about what the news headline following a rugby game would be, and he decided it was time to use a joke he had clearly saved up that wasn't funny, relevant, or appropriate.
On the other hand, I liked that he growled at Ali Williams and SBW when they were doing their lame press conference routine.

Watched it again and it looked okay to me, other than it being thrown at a hundred miles an hour....
I actually thought that was the right play for the Lions rather than go the maul off the lineout. The lineout was a fair ways out and the Lions were making decent yards through Joseph and others.

They didn't need a 5 pointer though. I was sure they'd maul for a penalty.

@ACT-Crusader I looked at the direction of the pass relative to the 22 m line. Forward pass to me but a moot point now.

Was it because both packs were so keen for the renewal of clandestine punching etc?
How did such less-than-peak-condition sportsmen cope without the 1-minute break that is the modern scrum?
(Maybe the repeated 1-minute pile-up that was the old-fashioned ruck?)

Staggering stat from the Landers v Lions game.
For a so called 2nd string Lions team,they had over 700 x test caps across the 23,The Landers had around 40 x test caps,Malakai Fekitoa with 23 of those test caps..don't quite subscribe to some who have been calling the Landers that took the field B Team,there was still a decent bit of quality put out on the paddock,in fact if they were a Mitre 10 cup side,they would take a bit of knocking off..The words over paid athletes gets thrown around quite a bit,but in the case of this Lions team that took the field,you do wonder..! -

They are marginally offside, which is very common nowadays. The line is a little misleading as it goes over the top of the ruck where it should disappear underneath it, making it appear like it goes through the middle when it would actually be closer to the back.

@No-Quarter See what you mean, but reckon it is definitely more through the middle of the ruck, not at the back, see it goes through the middle of a highlander player on the right, he isn't near the back (of the Lions side) not to mention the Highlanders guy standing in an off-side position not part f the ruck.
I thnk that seems a deliberate (smart so far) tactic of the Lions, all in a straight line, all very flat or pushing the off-side line so a look up by the ref sees them all in a line so seems on-side.
Point is, the off side call was technically correct, yes plenty of times it is let go, so I guess you cant complain when one does get called when it is correct, however minor.

His analysis has someone returning on side, having no participation in the play and Webb throwing a shitter of a pass that goes to ground. For some reason, he wants a penalty awarded as a result. People who don't know the laws shouldn't make videos analysing refereeing decisions.

Yeah, I wasn't saying they were onside, just the picture is a little deceptive. Can't argue with the call.
I remember the play where Webb threw the shitter of a pass - it looked like he was in two minds as to whether he would try and milk a penalty by throwing it into the retiring player, or spin it wide and go for the try. Ended up just throwing it to ground so did neither.

Farrell pretty much got selected, because the selectors were stuck for a fullback and asked Bryan Williams who recommended Farrell. Richard Wilson, Clive Currie, Brett Codlin - and a few others - by the time Hewson came along they were prepared to forgive plenty!
Seeing that video clip of Laurie Knight scoring reminds me that at some point during the series Fenwick (I'm pretty sure) got an interception and took off downfield, but was run down pretty quickly. Afterwards he remarked that he couldn't get his legs really going because they were so sore from Bill Osborne's crash tackling of him.
