As Nepia said, definitely Generation Kill. I'd also recommend Terriers which is fun, although was cut before it finished properly...
I'd recommend Terriers to the world, but I thought it didn't meet his standards. -
Mad Men, Deadwood, Justified, The Shield. Maybe Oz? Maybe season one of Damages?
-
Whoops, forgot about Friday Night Lights. All 5 seasons, but power through Season 2's network influenced teenie drama story line. Seasons 1 and 3-5 are gold, 2 is tarnished silver.

Oh thats a great one too Rusty. Although, re: S2, some of the storylines around the network stuff are brilliant. I gues we can be thankful the writers strike ended series 2 quickly though. -
I liked Deadwood, although S3 was not as good as S1 & 2 and IMO it ended like a 4th was gonna be made....
It was meant to be. HBO screwed everyone, and canceled it after three seasons. Instead, e got David Milch doing John from Cincinnati. Yawn.
Deadwood was much better though. -

The West Wing maybe? I fear your bar is too high and you'll not find anything to match the above and everything else will be too cheesy.

Generation Kill definitely if you haven't already seen it.
Thanks Nepia
I did watch the west wing back when it was first on, could be a go, certainly enough episodes to keep me going. Seen Generation Kill thought it was excellent. Yep bar is high but always hoping there is something excellent out there I haven't yet watched -

Cheers Bones, yeah looking through the thread Terriers came up but I don't think I could take the frustration of an excellent show being cut before its proper ending -
same problem with Deadwood ending early but with so many people recommending it maybe its worth it? Heard good things regarding Firefly too. Hadn't heard of Friday night lights or Ribicon will have to look those up. Last time I was off work for so long I had just started watching the Wire, time just flew by!

Man TV Programmers in NZ give me the shits!

I been watching Wild Boys on Prime, which is a decent enough series about a couple of outlaws in western day Aussie, it aint great, but watchable.

ANyways, after 5 episodes, it stops, noting on their website, so I e-mail them, they reply it is on a mid-season break, and they have no date for it's return, but I am to watch out for when it does...sod that, I'll d/l it...

TVNZ & TV3 have done it alot of times, start something and either stop it or randomly start screening it at a much later time or on a different day really late.... -

Hi all,

Due to poor health I've been signed off work for a week so would need some tv series distraction basically I'm looking for something along the calibre of Sopranoes/Band of Brothers/Breaking Bad/The Wire/Boardwalk Empire/Homeland/Walking Dead/Game of Thrones. I've asked friends on facebook and have been recommened all levels of rubbish so hopefully if you're a big fan of the above you might be able to recommend something along the same wavelength. Oh and before anyone suggests it I found Sons Of Anarchy too cheesy and Spartacus just dumb, I also got as far as season 4 of dextor before losing interest . I'll be checking through this thread anyway but any recommendations will be greatly received.
Righto bit different from what I was after but I have to say 'Gavin and Stacey' is a cracking series! -

Struggling to really get in The Wire, not that I think it is poor, just it hasnt grabbed me like some other series do where I find I have to keep watching until the series is over.

Currently procuring myself the 2nd series of Sherlock as I enjoyed the 1st and only knew of the second thanks to Crucial, odd that they only do 3 episodes per series though...? -
Don't get all the love for Homeland. I'm watching it but I wonder why. It strikes me as formulaic and predictable. Certainly not for me worthy of the exalted company some seem to think.

I guess I need to persevere and maybe not watch it while trying to catch up on work emails but it really strikes me as of about the standard of The Killing -

One question - are you sitting down and watching each episode with no distractions? No kids hanging around, no texting etc. I originally tried watching it on TV with ads etc and you just can't watch it with any distractions. That could help. Either that, or you've got no taste whatsoever and I spit at your feet, phew phew. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I must say that I am loving Justified, I'm unsure why I took so long to carry on watching it (no spoilers please, I'm still on the first season) - it has the right blend of drama, comedy, good performances etc and I'm quite taken by the ex wife, and it has a wicked theme song. -

Natalie Zea is amazingly good looking.
I've seen photos of her and they don't really do her justice (IMHO) - but I find that with quite a few actresses. Although I wonder how much the character makes them hotter?

The best example to me of that is Penelope Cruz, I've always thought she was pretty hot, then she played that awful character on Blow and it really put me off her for a long time - I reckon she should have got the Oscar for that!
