I guess this weekend we will find out if Kaino has anything left in the tank at the super elite level. The answer could well align with the result.

@akan004 agree on the schedule, but if you look at the rotation of the front row (same as ours) they're not playing 80, their locks have changed a bit with kruis/lawes/awj/itoje. warburton hasn't played a huge amount because of injury...

Guessing Marler may start with Vunipola on the bench this week as well. Furlong and George will stay.

Jamie George has had such a good series I can't see Hartley remaining England captain for much longer.

Possible re Marler but McGrath is the man in situ and hasn't done (poorly) enough (IMO) to warrant Marler being picked over him.

I'd guess pretty much the same squad with the possibility of Halfpenny on the bench for Nowell. Vunipola to bench and McGrath starting. I'd be surprised if there was anything much more than that.

@Crucial yeah i get your point, but i do think it would encourage battering rams, especially when close to the try line. i think we just need to get better at dealing with it - the rush defence has been the best way to beat the all blacks since the late 80s, basically ever since i've been capable of analysis - and i think because of that we tend to worry about the offside line more than most - just about every game we've lost there will have been complaints about opposition living offside. that's largely because our outside backs have been a relative strength that whole time, and a rush defence is a good way to prevent them getting the ball.
it's a simple game though, if the opposition is up quick, you just have to adjust and make play closer in - get momentum and they can't rush and will either be flat-footed or obviously offside and pinged. once you have them on the back foot, go wide fast, skip passes to get around the midfield, and you'll find space. test 1 i think we actually showed how to deal with it pretty well, minus kicking the ball away a few times.

“There’s been a bit of edge there,” said Kaino, who is so worked up that he had to be told to cool it in the team’s training session on Tuesday morning.

Assume SBW was on the receiveing end of a lot of Kaino's "anger".

Genuine question does anyone know if the suspension prohibits him training with the team?

@Stargazer some comments in the media that Laumape was found out on defence...so it could be that they don't see him as starter. Would take a bit of a review to work that out.

That was "analysis" from Will Greenwood.

The media guys are fans just like us. Any influence they think they can exert they will.

He thinks if he can put pressure on Laumape by putting out that kind of bullshit he will, hoping that Laumape reads it and gets in his head that he was "found out" that he believes it.

I was listening this arvo on the web to Devlin talking to Chris Jones who was desparately trying to put the story out there that the ABs are under soooooo much pressure that they'll be hated forever ... jeez it wasn't even subtle.

The media are just as much trying to i nfluence the officials as we are.

But Laumape was at fault for both of the tries. Not in isolation - the first try he was sucked in by the decoy with ALB and Rieko - but he was involved in of the defensive lapses.

I don't want to scapegoat the guy, I just think it's important to recognise that he's somewhat lacking in experience and playing the most defensively challenging part of the field. Of course, the opposition will be looking to exploit him.

@junior probably a big reason why they have brought Fekitoa back into the fray. He and ALB have a combination and I quite like ALB defending at 12 and Fekitoa is a genuine centre.

Laumape is an impact option at this stage.

I'm not sure of the answer, but how can we keep Barrett at 1st 5 longer? I know this might set Nepia and Crucial's knight in shining armour alerts off, and it's not meant to be a slight on Cruden, but I prefer Barrett to be at 10 in both attack and defence. Sure he didn't have a great test last weekend, but I felt we lost shape when he shifted.

                    Ok. Fair enough.

Is Fekitoa like Matt Todd last year? When he was bought in to start over Ardie who remained impact from the bench?

has anyone else noticed that we seem to have entered some sort of alternate reality where the lions make breaks and score tries while we kick penalties and play warren-ball?
i'm a bit worried about the decider. our forwards have got to be knackered after that 7 man effort, there are major injury problems in the backs, and we aren't playing smart rugby.

Xactly. I initially thought they may go with a 6/2 split on the bench, but then I thought - nah that means we just get suckered in to play their game again That was what was wrong in the Welly test. We let them dictate the pace, they controlled the tempo, diluted and negated our power and we were stuck in some alien headspace where we could only add to the score in threes. We allowed them to stifle our running game and smother our natural instincts - to attack the space. Well no more. We got your number Lions. While you're whooping It up in Queenstown, Shag and co are plotting your demise!!

I guess it depends whether they deem being a human tackle bag counts as "training with the team".

                              @Rapido

Basically GP thinks ABs are angry at:

                              • their own performance
                              • judiciary for inconsistencies
                              • lack of YC for persistent infringing
                              • Sinckler as follows

''The final sore point for the All Blacks was the incident after the final whistle where Lions prop Kyle Sinckler said something particularly nasty to TJ Perenara.''

I didnt click either. Fuck the herald

But I am sick of this "don't make the All Blacks angry" bullshit.... Sumo Stevenson went on and on about it in his post match show, same with Melodie Robinson.

I'm sure the Lions are "angry" too, Perenara acting like a dickhead after the final whistle would have that effect on anyone.

@SammyC yeah it won't be a case of the "ABs are angry" this weekend, it'll be the "ABs are focused on accuracy to get the job done this time". This is professional sport, red mist doesn't get you very far, as we see on a regular basis with TJP.

Interesting article on the 42 about Poite and scrums, and why this dude reckons McGrath should play instead of Vunipola.

Scroll past the first few paragraphs of chippy resentment re: selection or treatment of Irish legends within the Lions context. Then it gets interesting.

Until last year, when he was excellent, I had TJP rated as one of the worst all blacks I had seen. Although that's a bit unfair as I was judging him as a replacement. Certainly the worst impact sub I had seen.

Come on, overexcited, make mistakes and play like a headless chick with an IV of adrenalin still stuck in his arm.

                                      Like last Saturday, basically..

Interesting on Breakdown last night that JK thought all the subs came on frustrated , and subsequently were poor.

Put TKB on the bench, just like at the 2015 RWC.

TJP is really frustrating. He's supremely talented, and when he keeps his head down and concentrates on his rugby he can be one of the best going around. But so often he lets his emotions get the better of him and it negatively impacts his play and also his team. Just when you think he's turning a corner he'll play like he did in Wellington, or like he did against the Chiefs earlier in the year.
