So I was watching Spartacus: Vengeance (yeah it's awful, don't).<br />
<br />
And I happened to notice a former French (possibly Japanese) test player. Anyone else spot the resemblance?<br />

<br />
I've watched all of them Don Frye. They were unashamedly B grade and I loved them. I enjoyed them more than Homeland (where I didn't like a single character or care what happened to them). At least the Spartacus crew aren't pretentious and there are some fine looking honeys in there. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/yes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yes:' /> -

I read somewhere last week that another network is considering picking up Terra Nova, TR Jnr is most disappointed it has finished!<br />
<br />
Also I dont think I saw Justified on that list Rusty??<br />
<br />
Apparently Game of Thrones is the most pirated series of the year, and may become the highest of all time.<br />

<br />
Interestingly, Dexter was the most pirated show from 2011...<br />

would it be more benefiial for cable studio's to make episodes available, outside of the us, immediately for a small fee (say $4 similar to itunes) rather than wait till it gets picked up by o/s networks 6 months later? sure, people would still pirate it but the revenue must be worth it and i am sure it would still be picked u[p by o/s networks just for a slightly smaller fee.<br />
<br />
say 1mil people d/l it for $4 an episode (the majority will still DL illegally). across a 12 part series that is still $48mil. -
I think that is the way it is likely to go eventually but in the short-to-medium term content providers like HBO have to honour their contracts with the cable companies which (I imagine) have clauses regarding bypassing them and selling content direct to customers simultaneously.<br />
<br />
Once people can buy only the shows they want with no delay, many will choose to cancel subscriptions to HBO and Showtime. Management are rightly concerned about cannibalisation of their existing (fairly predictable) revenue streams for new risky and probably unpredictable revenue streams. I can see why no one wants to be the guy who jumps first. -
The selling direct should only be an option where no other options exist. In the USA that is not the case, you can get hbo starz, amc, etc, in regions where there is no such option, provide the direct option. <br />
In the modern world people desire to watch and discuss online the latest show and participate in forums etc so waiting 6 month to see an episode is not cutting in anymore. <br />
Lost was a great example of the fan ecosystem that was created. Fans discussed and debated and length and in intricate detail all the plot twists and possible scenarios, there were dozens of fan forums, it was more than just a tv show. If you in NZ watched it on network tv, you had no real ability to be involved in the lost universe. <br />
This a real time world. consumers want real time content. -

<br />
Terra Nova? I watched a few episodes, but God it was corny and cheesy behind belief. Poorly acted. <br />
The only reason it lasted a season was the set in Oz cost so damn much that Fox were pretty muchforced to pick it up for a full season with out knowing how well the pilot went. It was a lemon. <br />
<br />
Wish "the event " had gotten pick up though, that was an interesting show. "v" aswell. -
OK so after reading a few good write-ups both on this thread and elsewhere, I have downloaded the first season of Justified. I watched the first three episodes, and frankly I'm underwhelmed. It's a bit cliche, a bit cheesy and doesn't seem to have much of an ongoing plot.<br />
<br />
My question is this- does it get better? Is it worth sticking with, or is it just not the series for me?<br />
<br />
If it stays like the first three episodes then I probably won't continue. Then again the first three episodes of the Wire were pretty shit as well, and that turned out pretty nicely... -

I am 3 episodes into the wire and massively underwhelmed... but everybody, bar none, tells to me keep going because it's so frickin amzingly awesome.<br />
<br />
Do you concur? -
haha, I got to about 6 of the Wire and chose to give it a break to try again another day....<br />
<br />
I guess like everything, our tastes differ, although I guess Barbarian is probably a bit further removed than most, liking the Wobblies and all <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -

Keep going MR. Probably the best series Ive watched.<br />
[/quote]Watch Breaking Bad or Generation Kill then <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /><br />
<br />
I quite like Justified, pretty clichÃd but often a few laughs. I wasn't sure after the first couple of episodes but kept going and am now up to season 3...<br />
<br />
I watched the first episode of The Wire years ago and hated it. After seeing so many recommend it here I grabbed it again this year and finished the whole lot within a matter of a couple of months! -
It is hard to take advice from a Bieber avatar.

The endless "Have you lost mind?" moments and dialogue became very tedious in the third season. Very, very tedious.<br />
I found the first two seasons to be fine.<br />
Ok, I still got through the third season but fast forwarded a LOT.<br />
<br />
The new actor they got to replace Andy Whitfield is pretty shit too I thought. -
One of my fave shows (and a few others here) the past year-or-so was ESPN's documentary series "30 For 30." ESPN/Grantland announced last week a 2nd series - short docs. The first one just posted online is about Pete Rose selling autographs in Las Vegas. It humanizes him in a way I haven't previously seen, it's semi-pathetic and kinda funny in a way you usually only see with retired pro-wrestlers on the Comic-Con circuit, and you find yourself liking the guy. The doc runs 8 minutes and can be seen here (with story about the new "30 For 30" season):<br />

Yes yes and more yes. Saw about ten of these when I had EPSN Classic for a few months. Awesome little docos. Everything from Michael Jordan's time as a baseball player to a little league team that beat a much more favoured team from Taiwan. The best one one called "The best that never was" about Marcus Dupress. Absolutely dominated at college level, had issues with the coach and left to play pro ball but then suffered a career ending injury after just a few games. Think Jonah Lomu ending his career just before he got selected for the ABs. Dupress who could have been one of the alltime greats is now a truck driver in Mississippi. Shows how fickle sport can be. -
I'm struggling my way through The Wire S5 at the moment. Just not buying into the the whole premise around McNulty. The writers must have been getting tired. The rest of the story (including the homeless) could have happened for real and didn't need Jimmy's interference.<br />
<br />
The Killing is heading toward it's climax but the last two episodes have been a bit of a 'plateau' to set up the conclusion. Still a very well acted and scripted show, if a touch over dramatic at times.<br />
<br />
I'm not sure if anyone else has been wayching Person of Interest which IMO matured a lot during it's run. Was good to have a show that was given that opportunity to find it's feet over a 23 episode season. I had just been watching it as a 'filler' but as the show moved on from being episodic formula stuff to being more about the underlying stories of the main characters it started to get really good and has set itself up well for a second series. It didn't fall into the trap of 'Alcatraz' where they kept too much secret and only eeked out the main story in tiny bits so the veiwer lost interest. -
