Veteran's minimum, $2.1m per season. He was on a $94m, 5yr deal previously. Ouch.

Was he dreadful for much of that previous deal? Google tells me he's only 28, so it's not like he needs a zimmer frame on the court.

He's injury riddled though. One injury away from the end. Decent pickup for CLE if he stays healthy

Never been the same since the knee. But the off court stuff hasn't helped his cause when at the negotiation table.

I guess he's giving himself a genuine chance to be a contender.

If the Land shift Irving before the start of the season the load will be much greater on Rose. They'll probably still be favourites to win the East barring management blowing it all up

@canefan If LeBron stays healthy, they win the East, almost regardless of what else happens.

Problem is, 14 of the best 15 players in the league are now in the West. This is as lopsided as its been for decades. So whoever comes out of the West (probably, ugh, the Warriors) and into the Finals will be super battle-hardened and it'll be very tough for Cleveland to compete.

@TeWaio Oh yeah. But anyone other than GSW CLE have a fighter's chance. Less if it's GSW and barring injuries it will be

@canefan Yeah 😞 barring injuries to at least two of Curry, Green, Durant and Thompson. Sigh.

    https://theringer.com/lebron-james-los-angeles-lakers-bill-simmons-podcast-cb530026641e

The ever entertaining Bill Simmons is floating the idea that Magic and Pelinka will try to assemble a 2018/19 Lakers team consisting of LBJ, John Wall, Paul George, Boogie Cousins, Ingram, Lonzo Ball. It's a great dream that will get some in Lakerland woody, and it may not be that far from the truth. The big hurdle will always be signing marquee free agents, but they could definitely get LBJ and PG, and if they did others would come knocking

@canefan haven't read the article, but hasn't Wall just signed a big extension? I doubt he gets anywhere near that money going to the Lakers with those sorts of names, even with an opt out clause in his current deal.

I deem flat-earthers to be ineligible

It's not NBA, but just finished watching that Asian Cup women's final. Great game with Japan with the upset win against the Aussies by 1 point.

One Japanese girl hit seven 3's in the second half. Griffin for the Aussies was unstoppable.

NZ girls did okayish in their first Asian Cup. Came 6th after getting smashed in the 5th-6th playoff by Chinese Taipei

Lowe: Inside the Brooklyn Nets' attempt to rise from the ashes

Lowe: Inside the Brooklyn Nets' attempt to rise from the ashes

The Nets are changing the culture, but what about the team's outlook? Zach Lowe looks at reasons for hope and reasons for doubt.

Interesting story on Sean Marks' rebuild project in Brooklyn. As the first ever NZer to be GM of an NBA club I hope he gets the chance to see it through

How the Big Baller Brand is trying to disrupt the entire sneaker industry

How the Big Baller Brand is trying to disrupt the entire sneaker industry

From introducing a $495 signature sneaker to changing his shoes - and brand - every game at summer league, Lonzo Ball's entry into the signature sneaker market is like nothing we've ever seen. What does it all mean for the multi-billion dollar industry?
